SDP and Universal credit news!!

Good evening everyone,

For those of you who are currently claiming the Severe disability premium on top of their existing benefits. Or for those of you that were claiming this within the last month, will no longer be able to make a new claim for Universal Credit because of a change of circumstances.

Government legislation was announced for this today and comes into affect from Wednesday 16th January 2019. So, if you were putting off moving house because of this then from Wednesday you're free to move anywhere in the country because you'll remain on your existing benefits.

I'll post a link to the legislation below but i'm sure it will be removed for moderation and will appear in the next day or two.

Hi I'm really sorry so if you get sdp does that mean they won't be putting you on universal credit

Eventually we will be yes, the same as everyone else. What this legislation means is that if you claim SDP now and have a change of circumstances (like moving house) then you can't claim UC.

The legislation is only in place until transitional protection starts later this year.

No problem. Yes they pushed this back before Christmas but this has nothing to do with those claiming the SDP. It's 2 totally different things.
