Sdp back dated

Hi all, I've been in receipt of dla for 5 years, lower rate mobility and standard rate care, I have had pip assessment and been awarded enhanced rate for care nothing mobility which starts on 3 weeks. I was told last week that I should of been claiming sdp the whole time I've been on dla as I live alone and no one claims carers allowence for me. I rang office to put in claim for it, my queries are, how long usually for decision? Am I entitled to it? and if yes how far back can't it be backdated?

Thanks in advance. Lisa x

    Hi,

SDP is paid to those on Income Related benefits, so if you claim these then i don't see any reasons why you shouldn't be awarded it. Claims time vary wilding and i couldn't educate a guess really. It's like saying how long is a piece of string. I have no idea how far back they would back date it if you qualify, sorry i can't help with that one.

Hi Lisa i think that you can only claim Severe disablement if you also claim a means tested benefit something like Esa or Jsa or Income support ect. I may be wrong but i think this is the case
