Sebaceous cysts on bikini line area

I have 2 sebaceous cysts on my bikini line area near my rear end. They have both gotten infected and I put ice on them to bring down the inflammation. When the infection was gone, I put hot compresses on them to help get them to form a head and when they started to drain, I helped by squeezing them. I have been using antibacterial soap in that area and they haven't come back so far.
When I was first diagnosed that these were sebaceous cysts, my OB GYN had said that it was best to not have surgery because of their location. She had prescribed antibiotics - which didn't help.
I didn't see a lot of comments about cysts by females in the bikini line region, so I wanted to share my experience in case someone else has them in that area of their body. I wish there was an easier and less painful way to get these suckers off of me, but I have yet to find a way.

I have been getting cysts. I was seen once when I was about 16 to have one lanced by my OBGYN. I saw my primary care physician about another one recently and she made me feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed so I don't want to go back to her, but the cyst has gotten very bad. Who do you see to help with cysts? An OBGYN, a dermatologist, a primary care physician?

I went to dermatologist, gynecologist and surgeon before finding my primary care dr. I'd start there. Would have saved me about 10 grand in medical expenses if I hadn't started with the "specialists"!

Hi all! I thought I'd share my nightmarish experiences here in hopes of helping. I too had a cyst after swimming a few summers ago. I ended up in the ER with what I thought was boil. My leg was all red and I was running a fever. I could hardly walk. I was put on about five different antibiotics over the course of the next two years, and sent to five different doctors in total. I was put on Clindamycin and doxycycline mono multiple times with no marked results. I was referred to a dermatologist who was useless and after yet another emergency visit I was given a sulfamethate (bactrim) script. This is the most effective of all the antibiotics I have tried and is now my go to as I've become a bit experienced with this process. The dreaded I&D (incision and drainage) was performed more times than I care to remember. It's painful. If surgery is offered as an option I recommend it. After a year of recurring inflammation, always about five days prior to my cycle, I finally opted for surgery. The infected tissue was removed, but I cannot say healed. I ended up with another or maybe the same cyst along the incision line before I was completely healed, right before getting my period, again, and had yet another incision and drainage. Lots of ugly scarring. Lots of painful days at work where sitting and walking were excruciating. however I will share a few things that have helped to fight the vicious cycle:
Since the inflammation seems to occur on a cycle like my period, I opted to have the mirena iud put in. It cuts down on the amount of periods and controls some of the hormone fluctuations that contributed to my issues.
I also drink powdered turmeric, in fat (warm milk), with a little pepper to make it more bio available. Not a lot, way less than teaspoon as its not tasty at all, in maybe a quarter cup of milk, but tumeric controls inflammation for a variety of ailments and I have found that whenever I find a warm redness in the area, turmeric tea keeps a full on infection away.
Good luck to anyone dealing with this issue. It was a wild ride and I'm glad I've been healthy in recent months.
Oh also! I believed my issue to be a related to too much estrogen, avoid soy products of at all possible! The body processes this like estrogen and they put it all sorts of foods that you wouldn't expect it to be in.
I got sick of constantly being on antibiotics and haven't used them since the last time I had a drainage done. It has been 3 years and thousands of dollars in medical bills later for me. But the birth control has helped, as well as the tumeric. I haven't been in the hospital for over 8 months!

Hi All,
I have HS in my groin area for 15 years (Im 30 now). I started using Salicylic Acid 30% (the strongest) 1,5 yeras ago. Since then all of them started disappearing and i never had inflammation again. Even if some new one shows up after using the Salicylic acid the will go away in about 3-4 days.
I aslo started using TCA 50% as it is a stronger stuff for removing the skin. Using them together speeds up the whole process so hopefully i have a normal skin again in a few months.
I use it once a week.
I hope I can help all of You with this information!

Hi everyone,
I've had a 'lump' in my bikini area for about seven months now. Until yesterday I thought it was a strange ingrown hair issue. (Which it probably was originally)
I'm an impulsive person and so, idiotically I didn't read up first before I dived in a sort of did my own 'draining' of the thing. It freaked me out how the needle slid in easily and there was at least a cm or so of space within.
At first I was delighted to find how much it shrunk. It wasn't massive originally but noticeable.
Afterwards I cleaned the area. I actually bothered to find out what was occuring.
Upon finding out that they often don't go away after draining I got even more scared.
Maybe it's my ignorance to what they are. Reading through this forum feed has been really helpful. I'm probably going to try some of the topical treatment mentioned.
Any help or Advice would also help me so much I'm still unreasonably anxious.
Thank you

Hello all, I thought I would give my experience as I seem to be the only male with this problem on this site. I developed the first cyst on my upper back 20+ years ago. I have had a few over the years that would develop and require the usual doctor specific wide range of treatments. I and D, steroids, antibiotics, compresses, teas, salt water baths, direct solvent, on and on.
I am now battling my first cyst below my abdomen, located between my scrotum and thigh, or along my bikini line haha. A male specific problem is the misdiagnosis of inguinal hernia due to location. The cyst began suddenly and presented as a long rope-like mass (3-4in) that ended directly at the inguinal opening. I am a professional Trail Builder (nod to all of the cyclists here), i roll boulders and swing a pick all season. So, a diagnosis of a hernia wasn't surprising even considering my history of recurring cysts. Well with an inguinal hernia the first thing the doc will try is to manipulate the protruding mass, thought to be lower intestine, back into the opening in the abdominal wall. This obviously won't work, it's like incision and drainage without the incision. Just pushing, poking, and prodding until I was openly sweating and gasping. The inability to move the mass may have your doctor further misdiagnose the problem as a strangulated inguinal hernia which is life threatening and requires emergency surgery. You see where this is going....
So, to the males with a similar history of recurring cysts and daily heavy lifting; be confident in your doctor's care and diagnostic ability involving cysts before going under anesthesia.
To all of the brave women here; thank you for sharing your experiences. I am a rough and tumble kind of guy and am still embarrassed, shamed, and generally grossed out by this seemingly supernatural curse. I can only imagine how all of you feel when held under the silly, societal standard of perfection. Stay strong and lovely with lumps ladies!

I've just started to get "cysts" on my bikini line at age 48, I've had the odd ingrown hair that was quite different that I used to treat with Tend Skin, and it would go away, but these are foul little beasts of a different nature. My dermatologist prescribed Aczone acne cream to put on my bikini line daily to prevent them occurring, which helps, and to get laser hair removal. I wasn't very diligent with the cream for a few weeks, and now I have a painful cyst, so I'm treating it like I do when I get the odd one on my face, dabbing it with prescription antibiotic lotion, Dalicin, with Aczone on top. It's gone done a good deal in 36 hours but I'm so looking forward to laser hair removal in the New Year, even though a full Brazilian is not my ideal look, I'd rather have no cysts and no itchy skin and a silly looking (for me) vagina than a small trim and be worrying if I'm going to get a cyst or two!

Had 2 about the size of walnust, cut out a few years ago after pushing my Dr to do it. They didn't want to do anything about it whatsoever and wanted to leave me in pain!! One was actually in the bikini region. One was more at the top of my thigh. I'm thinking I'm going to have to cave and see the Dr as just sitting, walking and standing are more painful than they should be

I'm 45 years old... I've had cyst type issues in the pube area for over 10 years... it started with one and over the past 10 years it's turned into a reoccurring and painful issue.. after a decade of suffering I finally figured out what is happening and how to avoid and treat this...
if there is puss and pain and swelling.., it could be a cyst a boil or abscess... regardless... the one thing they all have in common is Staph... puss equals staph.. if your cyst/abcess/boil hasn't come to head... go to Walgreens and buy some Prid (drawing salve) clean/soak in a hot tub before bed... apply the Prid and you should see it come to head overnight... if it's already come to head... it needs to drain... I take a soft dish towel and cut it into 4.... I wear boy short panties during and fold the soft towel and place over the area and change it out several times over the day... heat in that area only increases staph... keep it dry and let it drain.... next... wash the area daily with hibiclense (also available at Walgreens but cheaper on Amazon) get the foam pump, as it doesn't self foam....and will last longer with the pump... wash thoroughly and then wash with the hibiclense... and let sit on skin for 3 minutes before rinsing.. this soap kills staph and lasts for 24 hours... once you've cleared up the infection... use the soap at least once a week but try to use it twice... once the cyst/boil/abscess is reoccurring you have to be diligent in killing the staph... especially in the summer when it's hot and sometimes sweaty down there...
after 10 years of painful puss filled and embarrassing discomfort, I can attest that THIS works.

I agree Lori. My labwork has come back multiple times as "a rare form of staph" that is not MRSA and not contagious. I've been diagnosed with HS. It was explained to me the staph is most likely present on my skin at all times but sometimes my body will "overreact" and attempt to fight off the staph. Surgery was expensive and not helpful. Interestingly, vitamin has helped to calm down my flare ups. Thanks for the hibiclens tip. I will add it to my arsenal.
