Sebaceous cysts on bikini line area

Posted , 34 users are following.

I have 2 sebaceous cysts on my bikini line area near my rear end. They have both gotten infected and I put ice on them to bring down the inflammation. When the infection was gone, I put hot compresses on them to help get them to form a head and when they started to drain, I helped by squeezing them. I have been using antibacterial soap in that area and they haven't come back so far.

When I was first diagnosed that these were sebaceous cysts, my OB GYN had said that it was best to not have surgery because of their location. She had prescribed antibiotics - which didn't help.

I didn't see a lot of comments about cysts by females in the bikini line region, so I wanted to share my experience in case someone else has them in that area of their body. I wish there was an easier and less painful way to get these suckers off of me, but I have yet to find a way.

I'm so glad I found this website, you guys have all been really helpful and I'm glad to know that I am not the only person on this earth that has this issue.  Mine has been going on for about 5 years now and I am at my wits end!!  I do believe my condition is hidradenitis suppirativa.  I have visited a dermatologist and my primary mulitple times and they have all said the same things.  Antibiotics do not even work for me anymore, its a waste of money.  I have changed to acne soap, scrubbed, changed my towel, changed my underwear (mens boxer briefs have been the best so far), epson salt baths, tea tree oil (it makes it come to a head within a day, better than epson salt), wash  2 to 3 times a day and before bed.....nothing.  I have tried not shaving, shaving, using multiple types of hair removal products just so I wouldn't poke the bear.  Eventually I want to get the laser hair removal, there are multiple benefits to that even if it does't work.  My mother recommened a new first aid ointment called Emuaid.  I watched the advertising on it and I am sold.  I am going to go buy it today (I don't care how much money it is) and start using it.  I'm crossing my fingers that this will help and work.  I will try it for a while and post my results so if it does work, I can spread my relief to others.  Desperate times call for desperate messures.....

I have finally found a product that has made them go away!!!!!  It is called Emuaid.  It is pretty expensive but it is really worth it.  It is $50 for a 2oz container but if you order it from and sign up you will receive %20 off.  I started using it a little over a month ago and have had 1 actual cyst develop but it was up and gone within one day, not even, and it did not flare up to the size of a golfball, it was a small scrape compared to some of the ones i have had.  Like anything, it does not work right away and you have to give it some time.  It does relieve the pain right away and will not allow the cyst to get huge.  I put it on everyday 3 to 4 times a day until the bumps went away.  Yes i have pretty much used the whole bottle already and need to order more BUT it went from always having them and not being able to hardly walk to having alittle irriation.  The minute i feel irriation, i put the cream on and by the end of the day it is gone.  I can not express enough as to how satisfied I am with this product and how for the first in 5 or so years i have found relief!!!  In the 5 or so years i have had them, they never completely went away and thats why they always flared up every single week.  Now, they are finally gone!!  The second bottle i am ordering should not go as fast as the first bottle did because they are under control.  I have read all the posts and completely understand what everyone is going through and i really highly recommend this ointment.  Give it a try, I know i will be using it from here on out!

I looked this up on Amazon and there are several products made by Emuaid. Which product did you actually use?

Hi I have GREAT NEWS, I've been having this stupid problem all my life basically, at least steady painful cysts for 7 years now.   And it had been getting pretty bad for the last four years.  So not one time in the last four years except for when I was on IV antibiotics for something unrelated did they relent at all.  I just learned to live with them.   Anyways I became a vegan 4 days ago, not a good vegan, but I just literally replaced all the creams and meat  I usually eat, even though it's not even been that much, albeit the center of my diet with vegan substitutes.  Anyway I had a giant cyst but the second day it completely popped and went away and now there's nothing.  No inflammation.  I examined the whole thing, there's not even one small cyst at all.  Just normal painless skin.    WTF.    I've come to these boards quite a bit over the years and tried take the advice, but nothing has ever worked for me before, although I was restricted to only taking cheap advice.   Anyways, I don't know why this is, probably something to do with the hormones in the dairy and meat.  I'm telling you though, I haven't done anything that rigorous with my diet and I have actually also been quite drunk.  Anyways I hope this helps someone.  Good luck ladies smile

I'm going to try to do an experiment.  I was always helped by these boards and comforted actually. I'm going to try to make these bad boys come back, by shaving.  I'll do a test run for the next week.  I am actually attempting to be quite healthy now because I'm super hungry, so it is turning into beans and the whole shabang, but I'm going to do a shave test and get back with you.

Hi Livz, YES! Please get back to us on your experiment.

I finally had an ultrasound to view my cyst. The cyst looks like it is more fibrous. The radiologist's impression is that it is a sebaceous cyst. I found an article with imaging to see if I could compare my image to what the article shows:

Go figure that women's groins and cysts are not well studied. Well, when I become a PA I am helping us gals out. We get NO LOVE FROM MEDICINE!!! I actually think this topic gets no love because it is not life threatening. However, it affects your quality of life which affects your health from a longitudinal standpoint. And these f-ers hurt!!!

I suppose I will try the most recent tips regarding the drawing creams. I happen to have this pesky ingrown hair about 2 inches near my cyst...I wonder if they are related. My ingrown hair is a whole other story. I can usually get them out on my own but this one does not want to come out. I think the drawing cream would be best.

Anyway, to all you fine ladies, thank you for sharing and please keep us updated! I shall do the same.

These are 10 year old posts but I found what actually works! I’ve had this problem for 25 years. I’m tired of it. You don’t need to go to a Dr anymore. I’ve been using Sulfur cream & it REALLY WORKS. It makes them disappear & never come back. It takes about a week or two to start working but it does work . Once it starts working it always works. It’s better then any cream from the doctor. I use it 2x a day on new ones I get. I had one & in 2 days it went from being really big to almost gone. I buy the Mexican one for $4. U can use any Sulfur cream. And use it with Sulfur soap too.  It says to use 4x a day but 2 will work. Trust me it does.

They are both acids used by licensed skin care professionals ( I am a licensed esthetician, and use them daily) please do not purchase any TCA or Salicylic online - you can find an esthetician in your area that may be able to apply the solution safely onto your skin for you.

At no time should any AHA, BHA, TCA - Jessner or any other product that has the ability to resurface the skin be used by anyone without a license, certification and experience to use the formulations - the pure, professional grade, safe product.

I also have the cyst issue myself and do find that BPO and BHA has helped, but has not solved the problem...in saying that, I again stress to find an esthetician, dermatologist or plastic surgeon to work with you so that you are sure you are getting the correct product and not something contaminated or watered down.

So I have the same issue. Recurring cysts on the bikini line. Its always the same spot, same side!

I've never had one drained or anything like that. Just warm compresses as much as possible.

After reading everyones replies....I may be onto something. I get little hard cysts on my eye lids. I have to squeeze them out. If It breaks and one little piece gets left behind.....it grows back. Usually in a few weeks.

I know these are seperate issues. However, a bunch of you have said you have had them removed or squeezed....only for them to shortly come back. Maybe draining isn't a good idea and having it removed will have better results.

I've also read on a few forums that hair removal can reduce how many you get. It reduces hair follicles. Not all though. Unless you make repeated attempts!

    Good luck y'all!

Yes if u use Nair they won’t come back either but don’t use it on broken skin because it burns like hell.

I have been getting them on the bikini line for like 30 years I'll have to try nair, I only seem to get them when I shave the bikini line with a razor and when it goes away it's only temporary trust me it will be back. I'm so afraid to shave again knowing that it will come right back. Hot compresses are my only solution it works but just a temporary fix.

This post was years ago so I hope you found help and that your cysts went down! I first started noticing mine at around beginning of puberty, 12 I think? I didn't shave at that time and wasn't on any medications or birth control. The only cause I can think of would be my competitive horse riding and hormones. It started with one on my groin and eventually it opened and was an open sore for months. I would put neosporin and clean it all the time but I don't think it went away for a couple years. It would heal, then open, heal then open. I still have a scar from it. Since I was so young, I never said anything to a doctor.

After that, I would get 3 maybe 4 at a time, they wouldn't always open, just be deep lumps under the skin, sometimes really painful, other times not. They're not always where the hair is too, they started showing up on my inner thigh. I've tried not shaving, creams, ointments, hot water and hot baths, nothing has worked. Now, they dont come to the surface even. I currently have 1 that's deep and has been there for a few weeks and is about the size of a quarter (in an area without natural hair growth-I haven't shaved at all in awhile). I have so much scarring too even though I don't touch them, my inner thighs skin is purple.

I finally told my regular Doctor and she also told me they're not uncommon and some people are just more prone to them. She didn't look at mine or check either. I'm used to them but they make me worried sometimes theres an underlying problem. My armpit glands swell every so often, along with what I think to be lymph nodes in my neck. My blood work is always fine besides low vitamin D, so I wonder if these things are just sweat and hormones.

It's nice to read other stories and know I'm not the only one. Just have to find the right treatment! Came here for the same reasons to see if anyone has found a way!

Hello everyone! I just want to share my story of how I developed a cyst that was small and then it became a sinus tract infection a.k.a a tunneling wound on my right side groin. I went to see my Dr. and he recommended me to a specialist a general surgeon . He examined my groin and told me that it is not just a cyst but it got bigger, deeper into my epidermis skin and it also spread out like a tunnel, that;s why they called it a tunneling wound. It was an excruciating pain and believe me when I say that I have tried everything to alleviate the pain hoping that the inflamation and swellness would go away. I tried putting hot compress on it, I even did the sitz bath just like what the Dr. said or even applied a topical steroid cream every single day, but nothing works. I was in so much pain and I was losing hope,

because of this I can hardly walk and it was inpeeding me to do my daily chores. I lost the quality of life that I used to have but I never gave up on HOPE snd so I finally decided to schedule a surgical removal of this Sinus tract infection. The Dr. injected an anesthesia on my groin and he finally drained the pus/cyst inside it that was been there for so very long and he removed the sac that surrounding it and stiched me afterwards. I felt a huge relief when I knew that it was finally gone and that it will never return. When I went back to see my Dr. who did the surgery, he said that I should not shave with a razor due to a risk of having ingrown hair that will cause an inflamation and folliculitis, and so I stopped doing that. I would suggest try to do the same try other possible natural remedies and if that doesn't work then you can go for a non-invasive surgery. I would say that would be your last resort if nothing else work for you. I also want to inform you that most people who are prone to this are possibly who have Hidradenitis Suppurrativa condition. I hope all the information I stated here will help you all. Thank you for letting me share this with you.
