Hi, its good to know this group is here. I am on my second day of orlistat and I am unsure about how much fat I am allowed to have in my diet. I was very careful yesterday so had no side effects. My son worried me though as he heard orlistat ruined someones life, I cant see how that can be it must have been a pretty shaky life to start with.
cheers

All you need to know about Orlistat and it's side effects should be in the information leaflet that came with the tablets which will describe the possible side effects but to narrow it down.
You should have no more than 15g of fat at one sitting. You are only allowed 30g per day or you will get some side effects which can consist of orange oily stools, diarrhoea the sudden need to dash to the toilet, oily droplets in your knickers, increased wind, headaches but as I said all info is in the leaflet.
As for you son I would be interested to see any information on this person. I doubt very much that you GP would prescribe them if you had any underlying medical problems that these could have some effect on

Well done for making a start! If you stick to the low fat rules, you should rarely see any side effects. They say to stick to no more than 30g of fat in a day and no more than 15g in any 1 meal. If I'm having a ready meal then I make sure it has no more than 5g of fat per 100g. If you follow that you should be ok. I don't eat salmon but apparently it's a no-no as it has a high fat content. Also restrict eggs cos they're quite high too. I've lost nearly 3 stone now and have only had one slight 'orange oil' experience when I had a coffee with some full fat milk.
Lots of luck

Im on 1 week 1 day lol - last week was fine and only had little effect last night but nothing major - had wose when drank too much vino lol - and thats as had slice of pizza and wedges - durrrh.
I initially was going to keep taking them hushed but is too hard - told hubby and mum etc and get lots of support - husband doesn't add anythign to cooking etc this way - and mum asked her doctor about them who said not bad for you - just like mine said - so not sure how can ruin a life - but maybe they became addicted in terms of counting fat etc - if they have a certain personality I can see it could become too big a deal.
Im hoping this week to continue to lose without anything happening - not had any rushes etc
As a side note - not sure everyone else experience - did you ask for them or did the doc suggest them to you?
I went to a normal appointment to get my pill prescription and the are clamping down on weight - and as i was near a border line they will only give me 3 months at a time not 6 like normal - so went for checkup since first time they did this 2 months ago - and id lost 6 pounds so thought they would dish them out - but no - she suggest these blueies for me - and gave me 3 months pill and if go back in 3 months and continued to lose then will give me my normal 6 months again - I asked why - she said being clamped down by gment on them. Which makes me laugh as she was freely offering these blueies out when i had not asked or even knew about them. Then when went to get precription for them - she had made little side note on back on it saying \"oh by the way these may interfere with your pill if have bad toilet issues\" and I thought - jes - I went for the pill, and she clamps down on giving them out - but passes things out that can interfere with what i went for lol - Ive worked it out though - the birth ate must be low for The Midlands so they are trying to bump the rate up getting is slim trim and un pilled lol

Ahh I hope you start getting results soon! Positive ones and not the tummy one lol. Were you on a low fat diet before? You see I wonder if because I used to eat as much pasta, steak, salmon etc as wanted as on SW before, and now can't - my body is reacting. Whereas if you were on low fat diet not so much effect. I want to lose over 4.5 stone - but seems so much at moment. Thinking of getting to 13 stone first - and even thats seems a long way off lol. My mum wet to doctors to try and get some as doctor she saw the week before said yes she could have if wanted. But then the second doc said no needed 30 bmi or over and hers is just under lol. Poor Mummy - but I adament I'm just heavy boned lol. Its not fat, nope, not at all lol. x
