Yes, I have had both hips replaced last year in January and September. My right knee hurts at the top and I am still limping but not as bad. It was explained to me that the stem has to settle in the muscle and it should be fine. My left side does not hurt but when I lie down it feels like I still need to keep a pillow in between my thighs. I am praying you feel better.

in my case after three thr, the hip replacement changes the Biomechanics of the Leg and changes in alignment of both the hip and knee following hip replacement. both knees never were the same and my knee caps was altered following hip replacement, which could have lead to a higher risk of arthritis in the knee.

i wear spring shoes really helps my knees after surgery. there are exercises helpful to trac the knee cap in the grove properly.

Hi Kay, I am 4 weeks post op and am only in the last few days beginning to sleep pain/discomfort free. During the day I have no pain/discomfort but at night is is predominantly around my knee that is the problem. I wasnt sure if it was referred pain, pain from a knee that ultimately may need attention or my new walking position. My knee did appear a problem before my new hip but everyone suggested it was referred pain from my hip.

The good news is 4 weeks on it is much improved and i am hoping its going to be relatively normal in a months to come.

Hi Kay I had my right hip done 9 weeks ago, my appointment for my final check up was for the 26th January but canceled! and now its arranged for 24th February. In the meantime I got another appointment for the 6th February for pre-op assessment for my left hip, and an admission date for 18th February, I was rather surprised at it being so soon but also pleased to think I would be getting it done and over with! The thing is I have many questions about my existing problems with my right hip, I still get groin pain and feel I am not recovering as quickly as I hoped. needless to say its a bit daunting having the second one done! I dont want to add more problems so my op is on hold until i have seen my surgeon on 24th. If everything is ok then I will go ahead with the surgery! Reading your comments has made me even more cautious I do hope these problems are only temporary and you have a speedy recovery best of luck Cyndey

I agree, its a huge thing to go ahead and have the second one done so quickly. that knee pain is settling already, so i think i panicked. i know it took me a good few weeks to feel anything like normal the first time, so i should lighten up on myself and literally take it one step at a time. hope all goes well for you follow up and second hip.

    Kay,

Congratulations on your hips, I think you are brave having them so close together. I had twelve weeks of precautions and would not have been ready to have another done so quickly. Oh, sorry I can not help with your pain.

      HI Kay

thank you for responding, I suppose by the time I have the surgery it will be about 12 weeks at least since my right hip. I hope you dont mind me asking what precautions did you have to take? Cyndey

      Hi Cyndey,

Looking back I am really pleased I had twelve week precautions as the operation has been a success and looking after the hip stops any problems arising now or in the future,

The precautions were, sleeping on your back which I did until week eight when I tested the un-operated side then the operated side, it was okay no pain at all but slightly uncomfortable after a bit, but that soon passed within two/three weeks.

The important precautions which you must adhere to are, no bending forward, place your hands on your thigh bend forward until your hands reach the knees, then stop, no twisting, no crossing of legs.

I was lucky as I had no pain after the operation, my surgeon said I would not and he was right.

At my six week review I saw a member of the surgeon's team, he said after the twelve week precautions be careful for another six months which I have. I started using my elliptical walker at week ten and returned to pilates, step aerobics and zumba at five and a half months.

So far so good, yes, I had groin pain occasionally and used one crutch until around week twelve as I could feel an ache in the bone that as the implant which made me limp. It is still slightly difficult to cut toe nails but I am managing.
