Second opinion

I have had aching pain in my knuckles of m6 hand, my entire thumb, wrists, the balls of my feet, toes, shoulders and elbows for quite some time. I figured it was from getting older (I'm 34) and recently noticed that my fingers were starting to show some deformity (twisting away from thumb towards pinky). I went to my Physicians Assistant, and right away she asked of there was a history of RA in my family (not that I'm aware of) so I got bloodwork and xrays. Bloodwork came back normal. No flags at all. Xrays show significant negative ulnar variance for both hands. No joint damage/inflammation though. She referred me to rheumatologist who said sincey bloodwork showed no signs, he believed it to be hypermobility in my hands. Cannot explain. The pain elsewhere though. He said if it were RA I would show signs of inflammation. Should I get a second opinion?

Yes. As far as I have been able to understand, the tests for RA are really dubious. It probably just isnot showing up. At 34, you should get another opinion. What the heck is hypermobility? My tests are lousey. No RA on either side of the family. It is a complete mystery to me. The doctors don't understand it either. Lucky us!!!!!!!!

Have you had any test or xrays come back showing anything? Or have they seen inflammation l? Because with me everything seems fine other than my pain and the fingers showing deformity

Second opinions are always a good choice. I have never had any doctor dispute another's opinion. So, the best idea is to not let anyone know this is a second opinion. That way you will know what they really see happening.
