Second opinion

Hi everyone and i am glad for all the posts I read on this subject. I am just wondering though if i have LP. Thing is there are no marks apart from this awful redness and soreness. I have started the Betnovate one again and at night but put olive oil on everyone time I spend a penny. No signs of improvement yet Just wondering if I should get a second opinion. I havent seen a Dermatologist, only a GP. Would be glad of any advice. Thanks

Hi iI went to a dermatologist and had biopsy done still didn't determine what I had but she said she though it was LP but like you I'm not do sure I've got the redness and sorness like you and find the steroids don't help just make it more sore I'm feeling frustrated because she gave me some cream to use last time that was more for thrush now o was going to see my doctor for a few years with this problem and he kept giving me cream for thrush that made it worse so now I don't know what to do I'm thinking of asking for a second opinion my self

Hi I was wondering of a biopsy is painful. I have had two, one on leg and one on finger, but the vulva seems particularly painful?

It's not painful because they use a numbing injection in the area and I found it not to sore after just remember to keep it dry and clean as much as possible and wear a skirt instead of trousers or Jeans for a few days

    Hi Bianca,

Definitely see a good dermatologist and have a biopsy done. Steroids aren't really all that effective and they are not a good long term solution. They tend to be too nonspecific in resolving the cause of inflammation in general and have an array of their own nasty side effects. Your primary care doc may be a good person to have help you locate a good dermatologist. Also, if you live near a large teaching hospital they should have one there 😃 At the very mimimum a good dermatologist should be up to speed on the latest treatments and will continue to see you for ongoing surveillance. If you are near Jacksonville, FL, Alison Bruce is a Lichen Planus specialist at the Mayo Clinic there. Hope you feel better soon! M

Hi there, thank you so much for your feedback. sadly i am in UK so will have put suffer the so called experts here. I will however press to see a dermatologist as I am so unhappy about things.

Hi I'm in the UK and had l.p. for 18 years. Vulva, mouth erosive lips erosive, skin. Ears very sore. I've had 8 biopsy just had a erosion removed from my lip.

I recommend you see a good dermatologist they can spot any changes and arrange biopsy if needed. I only use steroids at the moment but they work well. My l.p. is always sore and have never gone completely.
