Seeking Advice

Dear all, I was diagnosed early this year, I had a biopsy which was inconclusive but my consultant said it was LS. I have seen photos of LS and I don't have any white spots or white skin. I just have what I can only describe as a patch of skin which has a patch of red sore skin. I have been suing Dermovate since January which I was meant to be using on a reducing scale to twice a week but the sore has never got better so I have been using it twice daily. This worries me but I did I try and reduce  but the sore becomes even more red and angry looking. I read on here to massage it in for 90 seconds which I have been doing but now I have read not to use steroid on sores.  I really don't know what to. I am desperate for advice

Go back to your GP. I had something similar which didn't heal (for almost a year). I had the area removed under local anaesthetic. When it was tested it just showed ulceration with LS changes, but the initial concern was that it could be VIN (pre cancer).

You could try baking soda rinsed to help soothe it.

    Good luck.

Thank you, I’m going to try guppy’s regime but if this is not successful I will go back to my gp

Hi Wendy, not everyone with LS has the white plaques of skin which is why it is sometimes difficult to diagnose.

Anyway, here's what I would try in your shoes. This routine has worked for me in the past.

Stop using the steroid on the sore, it is too strong in my opinion and will actually make it worse.  Buy some Desitin cream which is used to treat babys bottoms.  Soak in a Sitz bath for fifteen minutes in warm water with a tiny bit of salt.  Then, pat area dry with a towel and use a hairdryer on cold to finish off drying it. The area has to be totally dry..that's super important.  Then, apply the tiniest bit of Desitin cream possible and repeat this routine at least twice a day for about three days or until the sore is noticeably less painful.  When it is less painful you will want to try to 'dry' out the sore completely and so stop using the Desitin cream but continue the sitz bath just once a day and this time after drying carefully with a hairdryer use a tiny bit of cornflour/flour dusted on the area for a few days....hopefully it should dry out and go away.  The key is that the area must be super dry all the time. Avoid exercise while you have this sore as it will aggravate it..try not to wear pants or tight clothes..

If after trying all this it still continues then I would recommend you go back to your specialist for him to look at.

Perhaps you would like to let us all know if this works for you as I am sure it will be helpful to others.

Wow , you seem so knowledgeable, can I ask you what you would put on a raw red area just on entrance of vagina , we tried to have sex the other night and afterwards just to the left of entrance was really sore and red , not sure what to use so get it better , thought i shouldn’t use steroid in there so just been using a bit more hydromol than I normally would 🤨😊

Thank you, I’m going to try your regime but what is a sitz bath?

Hi, it's a little plastic bowl that fits over your toilet and you fill it with warm water.  You can purchase them online.  It just makes it easier to have a quick and easy way to bathe rather than running a bath every time.

Hi Dawn, I would put on Desitin cream, a tiny, tiny bit  Less is more, especially as it is at the entrance to your Vjay. Anything that's sore that is slightly inside your Vjay I would pat it dry and apply a tiny bit of vaseline.  Never use steroid inside as that seems to make it worse. When women are seeing sores/lesions/etc it means that they are flaring and only when they stop flaring will these symptoms go away.  The hard truth is that sugar is nearly always the culprit, and sometimes you have to abstain from sugar for a month to rebalance your body, and then you can reintroduce treats once you feel your on top of it.

I am only repeating what I have learned and experienced over the years.  The hardest thing I think for most people to understand is the effect that sugar has on LS.  This sometimes takes months or even years before people realise the connection..I certainly didn't want to believe it at first.

Hi Wendy, try cutting out excessive sugar as well...I can't stress how important that is.  I know its awful at first but once you get on top of things you can reintroduce sugar treats.
