Seen gp today, no answer for dent in my forehead/also calf pain not achilles.

Seen my dr today.  Had to get my bloods done as well.  My gp didn't know anything about the dent in my forehead, she seen it and felt it.  She asked did I fall, my reply was no.  Steroids thin the skin, I know that.  Also mentioned about a terrible ache in both calves  muscles when I put trainers on and try to walk a couple of yards.  She asked was the ache in both calfes and I said yes, her reply was then it's not achilles.  She is going to chase the rheumotologist up as I haven't seen one yet.  It was endocrinology who made the referral to a Rheumatalogist so gp is going to chase it up.  I feel I am going it alone, other than this website, I would be totally lost.  My gp is good she was off when I was going for pain relief and was still undiagnosed and then diagnosed by a locum dr. in the practice.  I am at the end of my tether, I cannot even go for a walk, I know it will pass but it's in the meantime that's grating on my nerves.  Thanks in advance folks.

I am afraid to say this Pat, but I am afraid you are only at the beginning of a long journey.  PMR takes as long as it takes!!  The main thing is not to try and do too much, and STAY POSITIVE.  Rest, rest, rest!  Eventually you will be able to do more and you will enjoy every single improvement.  We are here to listen, and the experts to help.  Keep soldiering on!  Constance

Hi Constance and thank you for your reply.  I thought that 14 years with ME and a short stint of fibromyalgia would have prepared me for PMR but it hasn't.  All I do is rest and rest and rest but thanks again.

      Hi Pat,

Have you started on Prednisolone? I certainly had similar pain in my legs before steroids, but not since.

Hi Sheila, thank you for your message.  Yes I am on pred.  On 12th November 2014 I was put on 20mg and I was on it for 9 weeks, then 10th January reduced to 17.5mg and then 21st February reduced again to 15mg which I am on now.

I can drive and walk in heels in shopping malls without a problem, it's just when I put trainer and go out to walk I get a couple of yards and then my calfs start to pull/ache and I have to get home.  Thanks again.    Pat

    Hi,

I havno pain my calf muscles, but several times when out walking my ankle has given way and I have had to limp home.I am sure this is caused by the steoids and I am reducing them monthly. Am now down to 6mg from 40mg 18months ago.

Hi Doreen thank you for your message.  I have never ever had pain or discomfort in my calf muscles, even before the diagnosis of PMR.  It's awful when something like that happens and you just have to keep on going in order to get home.  Thanks again.      Pat

Hi Pat. I was just wondering if your calf pain is at the back or side? I have the same problem if I try to wear my high heels but the excruciating pain is on the outside of my calves. I have had to stop wearing my heels altogether which is very upsetting. No-one seems to know what this is. I have been offered no investigations for it. I shall read your progress with great interest! Good luck, Debbie

Hi Debbie, my calf pain is at the back.  I don't have a problem wearing heels and shopping and walking in them, neither pain or ache.  Only when I put trainers on and go for a walk the backs of my calfs pull/ache and I have to rest and then get home.  I still have not seen a Rheumy and was diagnosed with PMR in November.  My gp is chasing it up.  I have never had a problem before even with undiagnosed PMR.  Will keep you informed when I find out what it is.  regards Pat

    HiPat!

I have a dent in my forehead too but it is caused by fluid retention. Stupid place to be gathering fluid!! But if I press it at all, it dents.

Hi Sheila, thanks for your message.  I mentioned it to my dr. last Wednesday and she looked at it and stated she hadn't a clue what it is.  Steroids thin the skin, but my forehead has no fat whatsover, so it's not fluid retention.  There is just skin and bone maybe when I eventually get to see a Rheumy I will find out and let you know.    Regards Pat
