Self Harm- Infections?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have been wondering if one of my self harm cuts has become infected. How will I know if it is infected for definite? I don't really want to go to the doctors if necessary because I have nothing to cover me with family and I don't want them to find out I have relapsed with self harming again. Any ideas on what I can do?

it wont heal corectly if it is on your arm you may notice discololoration traveling up your arm slight green tinge to it clean it with antiseptic and keep it coverd to prevent further contamination if it continues you will need to see your gp for antibiotics if left to late it will have to be hospital

I always cut on my thighs as they're unnoticable there. I never do my arms as others would see. How will I know if it's infected on the thigh? Is it any different to as if it was on the arm?

Inflammation of the skin is a redness around the wound.  If it is infected then you get pus which fights off the bacteria.

As has been said it will be red and swollen and you may get discharge, pus. Infections that are not too bad can be dealt with by keeping it clean with dettol diluted to wash it with and a dressing and using an antibacterial cream.

personally, to minimise infection I always sterilise my blade first by dipping it in TCP and after use i wrap it in a TCP soaked cloth and then dry it and after a few uses i dispose of it and get a fresh one.
