Sense of smell

Hi, I seem to have lost my sense of smell. I had a cold a month ago and don't know if that caused it or is it Menieres related. Has anyone else found this?

    Oh boy. sad That doesn't sound like fun. I have not lost my sense of smell yet but never say never. Lol smile I have a real fear of getting colds or the flu because it really messes up my ears and head x10 with the stuffies and sinus inflammation that comes with those viruses. Possibly some inflammation related to the cold has affected your smeller...I'd be hopeful that it is a temporary thing.

    Hello Lizzie, That is a good question, I do have sinus issues and have had surgery for this in the past. But spite the sinus and meniere's issue I can still smell and recognize most things. That would be a good thing to ask your ENT, I was tested for the ability to identify smells, they even tested each nostril separately and didn't appear to have any issues. I told the technician I can smell stuff ok but can't hear stuff too well. And with vision issues I can't see the best either, He told me this test is usually performed for the detection of dementia. I thought to myself did the doctor think I had dementia? keep us posted, Have a great day Bertman

      Hi Bertman, 

      Wow that is a scary thought! I think I will relate my lack of smell to my last cold rather than dementia. Saying that Menieres does fry your brain a bit doesn't it. I find my reactions a bit slower & I really have to think responses out at times.

      Hello Lizzie, Me too, I get confused real easy, I have trouble following conversations due to hearing and foggy headiness. Tinnitus gets in the way with my tone perception. I told the doc I feel like I have crickets in my ears. He said "You had locusts the last time I seen You" I said yes sir and I still do. Have a great day! Bertman

    I have lost my sense of smell.  I am not sure if it’s from the Menieres or from the sinus surgeries I have had.
