Sensitive hysterectomy scar.

I will be 4 weeks post op tomoro and my scar is still very sensitive. I cannot bear anything touching it, especially pants/trousers etc. I sleep with my knees up to prevent bedding touching it. Anybody else had this sensation? Also, how long before I can get back to normal? Still painful if I bend down too far and can only lay on one side in bed sad

I'm sorry to hear that Amanda, mine is also sensitive but the surgeon told me it will be better after six weeks post op. I bought large nickers from M&S and they are comfortable, but pants I still wear under my belly with long top otherwise it's uncomfortable due to sensitivity of the scar. Don't worry darling, we will be fine and will forget all these horrible pains. I sleep on my sides so the scar doesn't touch the matress, and if I want to pick something I go first on my knees, pick it and get up slowly while holding on the wall so I don't bend at all. Try those tricks, they work for me so they may work for you too. This is my forth week post op, can't wait to get better and start living, since I have no children and the dream of giving birth was taken away.Get well soon Amanda.

I'm going to work next week I was given only four weeks sick leave . I will update you my experience after my first two days.I take it easy though no lifting at all and rest as much as possible after work.I guess it's easier for me because I live alone so no second shift with family at home.I 'll keep you posted next week.

      Hi Veda

i certainly couldn't return to work at the moment.  Please take care of yourself and listen to your body.  I am guessing you are younger and fitter than me (I will be 54 at the end of the month).

Its is good to be able to share the experience.  It all happened ao fast for me after being diagnosed with a tumour in my uterus! I have never had major surgery and didn't know what to expect but I really thought I would be able to do more by now!

      take care

      Debbie

You're right Debedee, it's soon to go back to work but I asked to do just light work that doesn't involve lifting at all. I turned 35 this summer and I used to be physically active before my surgery by attending gym at least four times a week. To me this was my second surgery in six years time, but this time it feels much easier than the first one. I'll listen to my body after my first day at work and I hope everything will be ok. My tumor was diagnosed in the end of July and I had to use Esmya to reduce it before surgery but unfortnately it didn't reduce even a cm.I can now walk normally, no more back pain as before.Quick recovery Debedee and I hope you will be able to go to work soon and be fit for chrismas feasting.

Thank you for your reply, have you been given the all clear since the removal of your tumour.  It's all such a shock isn't it.

They removed everything Debedee, except my ovaries so I was adviced to go for ovaries check at least once or twice a year and if there's any future complication I have got speed dial to my gynecologist who has been treating me for ten years.

Sounds like you have had more than your fair share of gynological problems, I sincerely hope you stay well from now on.  Live life to the full.

    Hi Amanda

it is 4 & half weeks since my FAH Op, I didn't have any external stitches they just taped it.  I am now applying vitamin E cream twice a day & one side of the scar is very sore to touch & the other side doesn't have any feeling it's a bit of a weird sensation it takes time and everyone heals at different rates.

I am still experiencing some pain in my stomach I can only describe it like I have been hit In the stomach so guess it is internal bruising I am still taking, on the advice of the specialist, Panadol in the morning and in the evening.  Bending is slowly getting a bit easier but if I am totally honest I feel exhausted and washed out most of the time. I am walking twice a day and that is all the exercise I can cope with at the moment.  I am hoping to be able to get back to work by the beginning of December which will be 6 weeks after the op but realistically as that is only a week & a half away I am beginning to doubt I will be well enough.

i still find the most comfortable place to be is lying on the bed with a cushion under my legs.

Check your wound area to ensure there is no redness or swelling because it could be an underlying infection. I would suggest you pop along to your GP just to ease your mind and maybe try vitamin A cream.

    hope you feel better soon.

    Hi Debbie

Thank you for your reply, My scar feels 'strange' if you know what I mean, my husband puts cream on it and it makes me shudder, feeling sensitive in some parts and numb in others!?  I certainly couldn't go back to work today (4 weeks post op, Veda) and doubt I will be back before the new year. I still have brusing externally so goodness knows what I look like internally? I do sleep with a cushion under my legs which does help, just live sleeping curled up on my side sad

Time is a healer I suppose, just not getting better quick enough.

    Best wishes

    Amanda.
