Serataline shaking

Posted , 6 users are following.

hi all my fiancé just started taking serataline for one week for anxiety /depression following a pyschotic episode in March . It was medically induced by anti biotic Avalox initially as she had severe allergic reaction . The serataline has now made anxiety worse and she is shaking really badly . The pychatrist saying it's not side effect but anxiety . Another mental nurse in same office saying it is side effect and after reading posts I believe it is . You try to put your trust in professionals but they all contradict each other . Some posts here stay stick with it as it will get better but then others say get off this tablet . She is now worrying about the most silly things and blowing out of proportion . Any advise please ?

Now you come to mention it I did have mild movement shakes if that makes any sense? When I went to pick something up I would feel my wrist mildly shake and we use to joke I'd got Parkinson's in the post. Since not being on the tablets I haven't noticed this happen. I'm not sure it is what you are describing as it didn't have permanent shakes it was more a movement reaction. Probably worth mentioning the symptoms to your doctor. Good luck to you both,

Hi , I had to come off setraline as I was shaking so badly, sweats and vomiting , it certainly didn't agree with me, the doc gave me something else but I decided not to take it, withdrawing from setraline wasn't as bad as I thought , I'm now going down the road of meditation breathing excercises yoga and treating myself to regular massages and I'm finding this is really helping my manic behaviour and my anxiety . Good luck yo you both . X

Hi Clive.... what dose of sertaline is she on? I am due to start taking it in a fe weeks when I have come off my current meds. I have read varying things on here but a lot of people say it does help even if it takes a bit of getting used to. Is she or has she taken any other anti anxiety medications and how did these affect her if so?

Hi thx for reply she is on 50mg and also on stelazine for her psychotic episode 2 mg .

Your fiancé is having an adverse reaction to the med. It is designed to affect the nervous system. The shaking is likely a result of that and you psych doc SHOULD know better! Look up the side effects from the med on their website.

After my experiences with these meds I would get her off them now before she develops issues that become permanent. Please read my other posts regarding these problems. These doctors have a vested interest to keep them on meds. This was caused initially by a med and NOT because she's predisposed to mental imbalances. You throw psych meds at her and they can cause more anxiety that you would otherwise NEVER deal with.

    Good Luck!

I totally agree with resigned2B. I never felt well on any of these drugs. They ruined my life for two years. Drs. telling me when I tapered and had crying spells that I was depressed again. The first time I believed them, NO MORE, it was withdrawl from the drug. she's knows her body.

I suggest, as Resigned has,to read through the posts. One link of interest would be " Do withdrawl symptoms from Sertarline ever go away"? Many of us on here are still suffering 7 months to a year after quitting these drugs.

Drs. at least the ones I dealt with, perscribe one drug, then another, to counteract the symptoms of the previous one. Many have never taken these drugs, aren't familiar with the wide effects, and don't believe their patients. I was told by one Dr. just ignore the side effects. I said " have you ever taken these drugs'? There was dad silence ~ no reply! They are not God, they know what they are taught and read in their medical books! We know that each patient is unique and responds differently to meds., and so should they!

Hi thx for all your replys . Just got back from seeing psychiatrists after I insisted I wanted to see them urgently . Also sat in on girlfriends cbt session . Showed them all video off her shaking and all agreed that it is anxiety about going back to her job that stressed her out and bosses were trying to get her out . My sister went through same shaking in her 40 s with her anxiety caused by work and hormones . She wasn't taking any tablets . I am now going to help her get on course to change her career and re build her confidence and self esteem and find a job that's worthy of her . Life's stress has played a big part in her breakdown . It's a long road ahead but it's she is worth it .

You sound like you're both well on your way to dealing with the actual cause of her anxiety. Good luck to both of you on life's journey!
