Serious sleep problems - is Colecalciferol to blame?

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi, wonder if somebody can help me please.

I suffer with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome, Chronic Pain syndrome and sleep aponea so my sleep pattern has always been a bit erratic with insomnia no matter how exhausted I am, but for the past couple of weeks I have had 8 random nights where I cannot sleep at all. I go to bed shattered but don't sleep and then I'm wide awake.

Blood tests show that Vitamin D is very low (GP didn't say how low) but she prescribed Colecalciferol. I am currently taking a 7 week loading dose of 40,000IU and so far I have taken 2 weeks worth. The first sleepless night was the day I took the first dose and I'm wondering if the Colecalciferol is whats responsible?

Any advice please?

    Hi Erykah,

I think it sounds like you may need to return to your GP to answer that question, explaining to them how this first started on the first day of taking the medication and see what their opinion is? Totally sleepless nights sound exhausting. Hope this is resolved soon.

    Best wishes

Thanks for taking the time to reply Beverley.

I tried making an appointment but could only get one with a GP I don't really get on with, but have one booked with my reg GP Tuesday week so will try to persevere until then. Had a decent sleep last night (still shattered but I will take what I can lol) so not feeling so anxious about it

      Thanks again

      Hi Erykah,

It can be hard to get a good gp that you feel knows and understands what you're talking about. I hope they can help you with the new slerplessness. I have chronic fatigue and so get the exhausted feeling too. My friend who also has cfs, has been on a course of vitamin d like yourself. They've had problems with sleep from the cfs so can't say about a link there. Good luck with the gp on Tuesday
