Just been doing some reading about anti-depressants and do they actually work. Well ive been on sert for 7 days now and don't feel any different on them at all. Last year was a struggle for me and the family with a death in the family. After a few weeks seeing my GP and other crisis team. I finally so someone from crisis team who was very good and tried few different meds one which was sertraline and another which was an anti-phycotic. Even tho i wasn't phycosis my intrusive thoughts exc dimished and all year i was my normal self. Now im back to square one. Im not sure if i stopped medication to soon. But that was just over a year ago. I just want to feel myself again without feeling im going crazy lol

Hi Nicknack. Sorry to hear that you are feeling so down at the moment. How long did the drugs take to work last time?  I've been on sertraline for 8 weeks and am only just starting to feel a bit better. Although everyone's different and I think the average is 2-4 weeks so hang on in there. Lots of people take something else like diazapam or beta blockers to help with the early stage of a new medication. Maybe the anti psychotics helped until sertraline kicked in. I've also had to up the dose from 100 to 150. Different meds and different doses suit different people. It can be a bit of a struggle trying to find the right one but I think it's worth it to feel the benefits in the end. Also self help books and relaxation CDs help. Good luck in your recovery. X

Hi tracy. The medication didn't take to long to be honest the mental health nurse who i saw was excellent. He put me on sert and anti-phycotic for my thoughts, Cause of my gran dying and me been depressed i got bad thoughts due to the depression. So he gave me the anti-phycotic he did assesment on me he said i wasnt phycosis or nothing like that he said it grief. And few weeks of medication i was great and stopped taking them and pulled through . But i stopped taking them and never went to the docs or nothing as i felt i didn't need to. So the symptoms could of returned xx

If sertraline worked before then perhaps you should try it again. Feeling like you're going mad is a symptom of anxiety. Try not to get too stressed about it and be kind to yourself. Talk to your doctor and hopefully you will get the support you got last time. And remember. You got well last time and you will feel well again. Take care x

Well this is the thing Tracy. Im not sure if the sertaline did help or it was anti phycotic. Even tho the anti phycotic is mainly used for phycosis and Schizophrenia its also used for severe depression. the anti phycotic i was on was Quetiapine |

So it looks like you're gonna have to wait to see if sertraline works.  Hopefully it won't take too long. I think it's great that you're helping yourself by coming to this forum and reading up on stuff. I know how hard it is when waiting for drugs to kick in. And I'm sure the doctor was right about this time of year reminding you of your loss. I lost my mum and my step mum last Xmas so I totally understand. No one else in my family gets depression or anxiety so I struggle a bit but try to stay positive and focus on my goals. I visualise everything being well and look forward to that day. Keep your chin up and I'm thinking of you. Xx
