Sert not making a difference, hospitalised

Hi all. I was put on sertraline 50mg a month ago and then moved up to 75mg. However (without detail), I did something very silly and got admitted into hospital. I feel like sertraline hasnt and isnt actually helping my mood at all.Has anyone else had this? I never took it this far when I was on fluoxetine.

See sertraline needs at least two months to show some amount of effect. So you have to be patient. It will take its time but once the effects start showing you will be happy with the drug. I was on 50 mg for 4 years before i got overconfident and weaned off. Just managed without for 2 months and then got back on. Its now a month since i started but the last 3, 4 days the anxiety is back. But that is normal to this medicine. So i am also waiting for the effects to kick in. So hang in there and dont panic.

    Hi,

Perhaps going back to fluoxetine is the answer, or is the switch not that simple?

I spoke to a colleague yesterday who didnot take to Sertraline at all and has been put on beta blockers. He has never felt better.

Personally having been on citilopram before I'm going to stick with this one and just take each day as slowly and steadily as possible.

I send you the best of luck.

Please be brave and stick with it, it can take up to six weeks for Sertraline to take effect. I was feeling very despondent, frightened and anxious for first few weeks and was beginning to lose hope but then began to feel better and now more than two months in I'm feeling great and like my old self again. Please, please don't give up :-)

Having a review tomorrow, thing is at the beginning i had intrusive thoughts however I acted on them. I was on 20mg fluoxetine then changed to 50mg sertraline gradually then upped to 75mg but I just couldn't cope.

Hello there, hope you're doing OK. I was terribly anxious and scared of everything so I do think I know what you're feeling. I levelled off after about six weeks and I'm fine now. Don't have anxiety on waking and sleeping well too. I've been on 50mg from the start and that seems to work for me. I hope you have an understanding Dr/Medical Professional who will support you

Hi Simon I'm on day 36 of sertraline I only had 4 good days when I got to day 21 then went bad again so moved up to 100mg on day 27 and on my 6 th day at 100mg , had a rather good evening last night but still wake up really anxious and panicky abit , would you say this is normal ? And that it may be working for me ?

Not really sure what is 'normal' in these cases but if you're having some good days then I'd say stick with it. I had dreadful morning anxiety for a few weeks but gradually I realised that it wasn't happening any more and I was feeling OK. Maybe the 100mg has to adjust. As I said, I've been on 50mg from the star and that seems to work for me

Thanks for your replies everyone. The thing with waiting a few months is i get urges every day.. Not sure if there is an antidepressant which works straight away
