sertaline and pregnancy

hi everyone,

i'm a regular on here, been on sertraline 150mg since september but overall i've been on the meds for a year.....me and my partner are planning to have our first child and we started trying just before xmas, no luck yet, but this is our first attempt.  i wanted to know if anyone had been ok on the medication.  i don't feel stable enough to come off or reduce my medication as i have acute depression and anxiety, my anxiety is no where near as bad as my depression and i'm worried about coming off or even reducing my meds whilst i'm in this fragile state as i know pregnancy can send your hormones up the wall and very tearful etc, i'm already like that and i'm not pregnant yet!! any advice for me would be really appreciated??

thanks

My sister took 50mg sertraline while she was preg with Her youngest and was told she had to stay in over night just to make sure everything is ok with baby and when he was born he was a healthy 9lb 10oz baby and stayed in overnight and was fine and will be one next week. She is also preg again and the docs put her on different ones which she found out is worse the sertraline so has gone back to sertraline but you will have to inform your doctor that you are planning on falling preg as some docs don't allow sertraline if preg. Good luck and I hope you will have a bundle of joy very soon.

thanks very much for this information, i have already informed the doctor but it was as few good months ago, he did mention reducing, but i said that i wasn't happy to do that because of my depression and i know what i'm like i would be really bad.  he said come back when you are actually pregnant and we will talk it through. surely you're doctor can't force you to come off it if you think it's better for you and better for the baby if you're not stressed :-) thanks and i'll let you know how we get on :-)

Your right it will do more harm than good if u come off as like u said u r not ready to come off it yet. It is one of the few u can take while pregnant and even breast feeding so I would stay on it until u feel 100% ready to come off it. How long have u been on it for and how long were u on each dose for and how long did it take to start working ( hope u don't mind me asking) and good luck with trying for a baby x

no problem, happy to answer any questions for you, i've been on it in total for a year, started on 50mg for 2 weeks, then 75mg for a month, 100mg for 8 weeks and then in september 14 onto 150mg and i've been on this dosage ever since.  i'm much more settled in general now but i still have a terrible time when my period is due, turn into a moody and emotional wreck for just over a week, my depression goes out of control and i get very insecure which i'm not normally!! i don't think i'll ever find a drug to sort that out!! :-)

    Hi

I was on 30mg citalopram when I got pregnant but they weaned me off it at 33 weeks to go onto 50mg sertraline I am going through all the negative side effects at the minute as I'm 37 weeks on Monday they done this so I could breast feed as there is more citalopram found in breast milk I'm up the wall and get started off 2nd feb I just hope the side effects bugger off 😁😁😁 but I'm being positive x

I'm just fuming when I think they should of done the change over at 20 weeks so it was in my system xxx

Really hope you have a good consultant when the time comes as you don't need to come off them x 💙💝

i know i was thinking that exact same thing, why put you through the stress of changing over when they could have done it much earlier on so it was in your system. i hope you aren't struggling too much with it and glad that the sertraline will be better for you and your baby :-) good luck :-)

Hi there. I was on citilopram for just over 3 years up until November when I found out I was pregnant then my doctor brought me off them. I found out I was pregnant with twins at 12 weeks and past few weeks have been really struggling. Not sleeping. Not eating. Crying a lot. The anxiety attacks r making me think I'm going mad. Went bk 2 the gp who I feel just brushed me off and said 2 go c a councillor (got an appointment for a month after) so when back 2 c a different doctor yesterday who has put me on 10mg same as I was on before I came off them. I started taking them yesterday. I'm just hoping they are going 2 work. Feel guilty that I'm taking them but then thought not sleeping and not eating has got 2 b doing more harm 2 the babies
