Hi guys.

Just want to give some positive feedback in relation to sertaline.. I was recently diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and was prescribed 25mg sertaline for first 7 days and 50mg sertaline thereafter.. I had the medicine in my press for about 1 month before I finally had the guts to start taking it... I've also took a bit of time off work so that I can relax let the med take there course and start some cbt therepy..

I am currently on day 3 of sertaline taking it in the morning... so far so good I have been feeling less irritable and much more relaxed.. I have had one panic attack when I was awoke from my sleep by the door bell ringing... the only major side effect I am having is insomnia so I'm going to ring my doctor on Monday.. but I am Finding meditation music is helping... hopefully the sleep issue is only temporary

I hope this helps anyone thinking of starting the medication.. I know when I looked up forums all I saw were negative reviews and that's why I was afraid to start.. If anyone has any positive stories I'd love to her them .

Thanks

P

Hi I've been taking sertraline for 12 months for anxiety related to dystonia. I was started straight onto 50 mgs and resisted increasing the dose. It takes the edge off and helps me manage my other symptoms and work. Distruptive sleep pattern was a side effect for me but then I take them before bed. However once I was put on other drugs for the dystonia symptoms (inc clonazepam) I sleep fine. Hope it settles for you. I have reduced over last 4 months to 25 mg, at some point I might try stopping altogether, prob once I have retired from work,

    good luck

Hi there,  I had insomnia, loss of appetite, increased anxiety, lots of awful effects but manageable knowing if you stick with it they will subside.   By about 6 weeks I was back to my happy self side effects gone sleeping normally again, eating again (unfortunately) lol.   Stick with it smile

Hi natalie99981. Thanks for your reply. So happy to hear more positive feed back... I've upped my dose to 50mg so hopefully that's the most i'll have to take... my sleep is after getting better to thank god. ..If you don't mind me asking did you put on weight or lose weight from this drug. I'm on it a week and I've already lost 5 lbs because my appetite hasn't been great and I had an upset stomach.

    Hi Polly,

Thank you for you're post. It's refereshing to see a positive review. I have been diagnosed with servere anxity disorder as well. I started on 25mg for 2 weeks then increased to 50mg thereafter. Day 33 for me and whilst I'm starting to feel the benefits I have to say that I have and still am experiencing strange sleeping patterns. I seem to be going to sleep at 4 or 5am then not waking until 12pm and still feel so tired, so extreme fatigue has been the dominating feature of this drug. But that said, I am starting to feel the good effects of this drug so will stick with it. I wish you all the best and from you have experienced so far, even though early days, I think you will be just fine. You simply have to find what works for you.

Glad to hear the medication is working for you. I'm on my my first day of 50mg. Yesterday was a bad day for me but I'm just going to persevere.. . I.hope your sleep pattern regulates... my sleeps seems to be ok the past few nights.. I hope it stays this way as I've young children to care for so I need to be able to function.

Just to add, ive been on anti depressions for 10yrs. Zoloft for 2. Best one for me so far, take it at night as it made me sleepy in the day. Im on 150mg. If I try to reduce I get severly depressed. Wake up every night at around 3 and find it hard to drop off. All in all cant live without it, cant function otherwise. Good luck, I hope you find a balance.

    hi

setraline for me has been a life saver, but i hated the 6 weeks for the meds to start working, not the same for everybody.

The drug takes a while to get used to. It helped me for years in some ways, and inhibited me for years in others.

If you ever plan to stop taking sertraline, you absolutely must ween off slowly, trust me. I mean like reduce by 12.5 mg per month. If not, the withdrawal will be so awful that you might never succeed.

While taking Sertraline, prepare for a sort of numbfull bliss, non-existent sex life (unless you like to do it without getting off), and liver damage (if you like to drink alcohol).

    Best of luck.

Hi there don't let all the negativity get to you. You need to remember that not many come on the Internet to say a drug has helped them they come in here when it doesn't more so. I have been on this med three times and all three times it saved me. Takes a bit longer to work each time but I didn't stay on long enough each time. 5 months then 6 months and both times a few months later anxiety came back. I plan to stay on it for 2 years this time at least .... Stick with it and hopefully you will have the success like so many of us out there
