Hi - ive been on sertraline 100 for 3 years and all

in all its helped so much so cant say anything bad. In the past year my life has had its ups and downs like everyone. my homelife is not great at the moment (strained relationship, toddler tantrums and a baby due in 11 weeks) i also burried a good friend who died within 30 days after being diagnosed with cancer. i out sunday and burried my head in booze fuled session to forget things. low and behold my anxiety came flooding back over the next few days. told doctor the stress im dealing with at home and the loss of my good friend i think it all got on top me. as i was concerned about new baby arriving in 11 weeks doctor decided to up my sertraline to 150. they also provided me with a week of sleeping pills as ive not slept well. suppose what im asking is have people out there been okay when upping from 100-150? i would have thought that with taking 100 now for 3 years that the side effect might not be as drastic as first time round. took the extra 50 today for 1st time and my head is pounding!! thanks in advance!!

    Hi Richard,

I have been taking sertraline for nearly 9 weeks now, 4 weeks at 50mg and 5 weeks at 100mg. How long did it take for the 100mg to do the trick for you? I am defnitley having better days now but still anxious. cheers

      Hi,

At the time i was coming off mirtazapine and starting sertraline so my experience was not very nice back in 2018, so i was withdrawing from one and having side effects from starting the other.

I would say about 3 months all in all on 100 but after about 6 weeks i started to feel some benefits. I had accupuncture too throughout the process which helped me.

Im now on day 5 of 150mg and im moody, irritable, have headaches and sleep maybe 4 hours night but i will take that compared to where i was a week ago, so i know its working and will even out eventually. I wont knock this drug one bit as its helped me so much and is probably the best ssri to be on in my opinion. Stick with it, you will have ups and downs until its settled but as you say you are having 'better days' so it is working and those days will turn into weeks and months!! Good Luck and if you need anything drop me a message!!

      Hi Richard,

Thank you for your reply. I am for sure feeling the benefits of sertraline now i can feel myself coming back. I have moments but NOTHING like i did. So you think I still have a month or so to go on 100mg before looking into how I am? Did you find 100mg stopped working for you hence going on 150mg? cheers rich

      Hi,

definately stick with it anther 4-6 weeks!! As you say you know you are feeling better gradually so it is working.

I dont think the 100 just stopped working, Ive not had a good year, what with the whole covid situation, ive had to deal with a 2 year old that has suddenly change from a loving toddler to very angry all time, a miscarriage, death of a dear friend through cancer, another baby due in 9 weeks, an extremely strained relationship (i get alot of verbal abuse) but shes pregnant so have to take this into consideration!! honestly at the moment the list is endless!! last week i finally broke went out a got very drunk which for someone who has anxiety issues is not a good idea, but felt i needed to escape!!

low and behold that was the release and realisation of everything going on in my life and all came flooding out. So think i needed a little help to get back up off the floor and on my feet.

i have accupunture too which i find helps me alot. my life is super crazy at the moment and its not all bad but think things just got too much and im hoping i caught it quickly!!

      Hi Rich,

Let me start by saying you are a lot tougher than you think! Most people under the pressure your under would not be able to cope. So recognise how strong you are. Have you tried meditating? I use a app called "calm" its fantastic! Wish I had of got it sooner. Meditating is a great way to calm your body and mind using mindfulness etc. You defo have a lot going on in your life a lot more than the normal so understand that also, most people would be anxious or even crumble under your pressure. I have a young son also so I can most certainly relate. Life is what we make it, and everything is not as bad as it seems. I will stay on 100mg for another 6 weeks or so and see how I get on. I'm staying positive that I will only get better and better.

Thanks for those kind words. As well as the accupuncture I am going to have 6 sessions of CBT through my work place. For me the real issues are the lack of sleep, especially with a demanding 2.5 year old. I'm very snappy and irritable at the moment. I can get to sleep but staying that way once i have been woken is a tough one at the moment. I am putting that down to the upping of dosage and anxiety. As you will know though the next day is a struggle and that struggle just feels like a constant nagging pain at the moment!! Fingers crossed things will improve soon!!
