Sertraline 125mg missed a dose

Hi,

I'm on Sertraline currently 125mg for OCD and I'm on day 114 since I started at 25mg.

I've had ups and downs but lately I've been leveling out well on both 100mg and 125mg with very little intrusive thoughts, and feeling good being able to enjoy life keeping the OCD under control, meaning the medicine has worked well. But this weekend I forgot to take 1 dose and got worried. I skipped this day and took it as normal the next day as per request from my Psych. But on day 2 I could feel side effects such as diarrea, increased anxiety, hyperarousal and much more intrusive thoughts.

now on day 3 back on 125mg and wondering if this is a normal reaction if you miss a dose and how long until it levels again?

Thanks!

some people can miss a few doses and be fine. some people cant miss 1 dose. my partner is terrible at taking her citalopram and when she misses it she gets the same as you but always goes back to normal after a few days-week x I think part of it will be psychological aswell x keep taking your dose and you'll be fine in a few days x

Hi! That's nice to hear, thanks for sharing your experience. I feel slightly better today than yesterday, and the side effects I got were typical when increasing a dose. So hopefully I will level out in time for the weekend and my vacation. I've been stressing alot at work and that might also be partly to blame.

good I'm glad to hear you're doing a little better today. hopefully you will improve over the next few days. stress at work can definitely contribute too it aswell but your sertraline should kick in a little and help when things are stressful. let us know how you get on over the next few days and you should be feeling better just in time for your vacation x

Yes, we all metabolise differently and react differently to missed doses. Sometimes, we get the pseudo placebo effect of even worrying about missing a dose which can increase or re-introduce anxiety when it had gone away. History tells that the medication was working and will again. Try to distract yourself whilst your body and mind rebalance again. Music, exercise, work......best wishes for speedy recovery X

You are right. This time I think it was a mix of both. I had some upsetting nightmares after my missed dose which is usual when the sertraline dose is changed in my body and I woke up with strong anxiety that I recognized. It reintroduced my old anxiety.

But from what I learned from ERP is truly life changing. If I had experienced this setback before my therapy I would have panicked but now I just stopped fighting my thoughts and anxiety... Instead I surrendered to it by observing without judgment (which is an extremely scary and brave thing to do when you have OCD). it seems to teach the brain that the fear is not real. Acceptance is truly an antidote.
