How long before your bowels settle down after stopping Sertraline. These tablets have messed up my digestive system. I was afraid to go out in case I messed my pants. Terrible diahorrea bloated stomach and gas. I have been off the tablets for two weeks but still experience these symptoms every couple of days. I also became more depressed than ever. Thinking of suicide all the time. Any feedback appreciated.

I tried Sertraline before & suffered terribly with the same problem, eventually stopping after 3 months. I recently started it again & 2 months in have got those same problems. After the first time, after I tapered off taking them, my digestive system settled back to what it had been like before.

How long have you been on it?

I had only been on them around 3 months and the problem started straight away. I was also very nauseous but that passed after a few weeks. I was prescribed them for panic attacks and they did help that. I have lived with depression most of my life so accept it as the norm. It was just the panic that I couldn't cope with.

Hi Peggy, the symptoms after stopping sertraline shouldn't take long. Its usually within the first couple of weeks that your body will go back to normal. If you still have problems go back to your doctor and ask for some advice.

    Keep me updated, take care.

Hi Peggy, after upping my dose to 150mg, I suffered from the most awful upset stomach. Like you became wary of leaving the house in case of accidents. I have not taken any meds for 7 days now and my stomach is about 75% better. Still not feeling fully better, but much improved. My mood has been somewhat manic in a happy but hyper way. Don`t if this helps you or not. Hope you are feeling better very soon. smile
