Hello Sue, some of the symptoms when starting on sertraline can cause nausea, sickness, headaches, loss of appetite, the list goes on. It isnt nice to be on at the beginning but if you persevere you will feel better eventually. Also with sertraline it does make you feel worse. I.e. anxiety, panic attacks Tec before you start to feel better. Hope you start to feel better soon but you need to give it at least 2-4 weeks to start to even out and rid yourself of some of the side effects.

you will get there Sue but it can be a bit of a rocky road at the beginning, I felt awful too and I was off work for a month, lost a stone in weight, all back to normal now. Keep your chin up and try and focus on other things every day, it does help and makes you feel better. X

Hi sue no I wasn't being sick but I was extremely nauseous, diarrhoea, dizziness, headaches, palpitations etc. The Sertraline can affect us all in different ways, I too felt exactly the way you do now but I persevered, don't get me wrong, it's not easy, however I tried to focus on other things, keeping myself busy and achieving something every day that I had set out to do. It worked and helped to keep my mind off things and not think too much about how I was feeling. X

Took me a good 8 weeks to feel good. Hope sertraline is better for you than me as I'm 3 stone heavier since sept. Good luck x

It took me a few weeks to settle with sertraline too, the nausea and vomiting do stop, but I found brand switching made this happen, they called it start up symptoms, try asking chemist/pharmacy to only issue one brand, or go back to doctor and request lustral, Pfizer brand, it's more expensive but you get the same dose.

The generics can vary with the amount of active ingredient, this can cause problems for you. I found sertraline on the low dose fab after I got over the start up, I was able to talk to people again.

i like another poster unfortunately put a lot of weight on four stone in total, now off sertraline and actively trying to lose weight.

I, unfortunately, could not take Sertraline. It became toxic in my body. Mentally it helped after 5-6 wks. I felt great mentally but physically aweful. Liver enzymes went up. Joint pain, like a hot poker. Severe diaherra. Lost over 10lbs. Was down to 120lbs. Not good. Never hungry. Not good. Flu like pain all over. Was on 50mg. Stopped it in two wks. Mertazapine will cause wt gain. They give that usually to elderly patients who have lost their appetite. It's a appetite stimulant an antidepressant. An helps sleep to. My Dad was given that in a rehab after a long hospital stay. He wouldn't eat. Started it an slowly began eating. Then to much! He's diabetic! Iv just tried for 6 wks,Prozac or the generic,Fluoxetin. It did same thing as Sertraline. Iv also tried Lexapro (non-activating &makes sleepy an eat)& Duloxetin (generic Cymbalta)it made blood pressure go way up but no real startup side effects. It did help with fibromyalgia pains. But mentally not real change. So now waiting till Fluoxetin is out of me before deciding what to do. Have GAD an depression.

I was told sertraline won't make you gain weight but the leaflet that comes with it says it can and it also states it can cause metabolic problems, doctors tend to go by what the drug companies said in the 90's, they do not tend to keep up to date with the information, they still say antidepressants are not addictive, yet the world health authority have know since 2002 that these drugs are addictive

Such a shame we have to find our own information, the drugs are addictive hence the reason the dosage needs increasing, we do not crave the drug because we are told we do not crave it.

It is now coming to light about the studies being hidden, so as to hide the truth about the side effects, unfortunately while the drug companies have the power we will have to continue being the Guinea pigs, sending in our adverse reports and unfortunately we have to be the campaigners who get the doctors to listen.

They surely know these drugs are altering things in the brain that they know nothing for sure about, this is dangerous that drugs can damage our brains and cause toxic problems but we have to accept it because the doctor says so.

I for one will not accept it, the French study that caused a death and brain damage should surely change things, that was an antidepressant they were testing, I notice it has all been hushed up, but I will continue to look for the truth and help others along the way.
