Sertraline

I have been on Sertraline for  8 weeks now and saw the GP yesterdaywho asked me if I needed the dose increasing to 100mg from 50mg.  This may be a stupid question but how would I know if I needed the extra dose?  I do feel up and down and the GP said this would happen.  Can any of you lovely people give me advice. Any sort of worry does knock me at the moment.  Ann

Hi if your still feeling low / anxious on the 50mg then I would up the dose as 50mg may not be enough. I had to up mine & I'm now on 100mg & I feel fine now & back to normal

Thank you. Did you get side effects once you upped the dose and how long did they last

No I didn't get any side effects it just made me tired which they do when you 1st start taking them. I would definitely recommend upping your dose xx

I understand how hopeless this process feels.  I am now at day 11 @50mg after 3 weeks at 25mg.  I have times during the day when it is bearable but they are very few.  I am considering ask my GP for something to handle the panic attacks while I am waiting for the meds to reach their therapeutic levels - which i figure will be in another 4 weeks or longer.  Did your GP offer you anything to tie you over during this time?  I have read about various meds that people on the forum have been prescribed - Its a scary decision but the anxiety is overwhelming me right now and I have a long way to go before I can increase the dosage.  I also am not sure if my GP will give me anything, she hasn't offered yet and she knows how debilitating my anxiety is.  What do you think?

i am waiting for that daily period of feeling like myself.  I have been on sertraline for 30 days.  21 days @ 25mg and 9 days @ 50mg.  So far I have only had a few days with a couple of hours of relief from anxiety and that was just this week.  I know i have to give the 50mg dose at least another 4 weeks or longer, but the increased anxiety is leaving me barely functioning.  I am also very concerned about increasing again and revisiting the side effects i have experience twice already.  Hoping for some relief sometime soon.

I have only had a couple of 'good days' thusfar.  Those were marked by definite up and down feelings - I just have to wait this out.  Thanks for the input.

If would say give it another month for your chemistry to find its equilibrium, it took three months for me to settle on them and feel better. I resisted upping the dose and stayed on 50mg for two years.

Really sorry Ann I'm only day 11 and how you've managed 8 weeks on this I will never know quite frankly!

Hope you're doing good though and you find your correct dose.
