Hi. I've been on 50mg for 5 years now. I tried coming off a few months ago, but went back on them! I had a few side effects - racing thoughts, "what if thoughts" and headaches.... So I gave up. I'd go slowly. Even 50/25/50/25 for a while, then 25/25/25 etc.

I was fine for the first few days, then the side effects kicked in..... I'm sure you can do it though, I just panicked.

Let us know how you get on. Good luck

Slowly....very slowly, to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Miss 1 a week for a few weeks, then 2 a week for a few week eg Mon and Fri, then 3 for a few weeks, and so on. I'm going up to 200mg tomorrow!

Have a look on here under 'sertraline withdrawal, does it go away'

you will find lots of well researched advice on there.

in a nutshell in order to avoid withdrawal effects and long term damage you follow the 10% tapering method, in short you reduce your present dose by 10% for a month and then go down 10% of what's left for another month. Keep going until you have nothing left.

i followed this method and safely came off completely 3 weeks ago after 2 years,

    all the best

Hi. Well I've come off Sertraline cold turkey" I was only taking them for a few weeks, but the awful symptoms that I was getting, Diarhorea, Cronuc Flatulance, Insomnia, Disturbed Dreams, always hungry so gained weight, Totally not interested in anything at all....I also have Advanced COPD...  So I can hardly breath with any excertion, my doctor said I needed the Sertraline for my Anxiety !!! I told him I'm anxious because I can't breath and when I get a very often chest infection, I can hardly speak so can't go out...but now that I'm off the Sertraline I feel so much better thankfully, and I will never go on those anti-depressant of any kind ever again... I'm even going through the end of my relationship of a few years, feeling strong and capable but managing thankfully......I hope you manage to come off them ok and that you feel a lot better without them!! 😃😃
