Sertraline 50mg

Hi been on sertraline 50mg a week now my gp said if I don’t feel any effect I can double my dose after a week has anyone else done this doubled there dose with gp permission if so do you take two at the same time or one in the morning one in the night? Info welcome thank you xxx

    Hi Claire usually it takes up to 6to8 weeks to feel decent again. Some people do feel it sooner but most takes longer. It is a slow acting med, it takes time to get into your system. As to upping ur dose, I would take it once a day. But u should talk to your doctor and he'll let u know,I'm not a doctor only letting u know what is said by most people on forum. I started on 50 and stayed on it for 4 months, then upped to 100. Hope this helped some.

      I have been on sertraline for four weeks now. First 2 weeks on 25mg and then increased to 50mg, so also two weeks now. But I still get panic attacks. How long before it starts working? Do I have to give it more time?

      Hi Ren, some people takes up to 8 weeks and sometimes longer. I also had panic attacks the first couple of weeks. My doctor gave me ativan for those occasions. Talk to ur doctor and see if he can do that or some other benzo, just to get u over the rough period.

      8 weeks? Counted from the first day of increase or the starting day? That's quite a long time.

      I do have oxazepam pills which I can take when necessary. But I am just hoping for things to improve.

      It will, but try to not make yourself anxious. 50 is what helped me alot but i had to increase for the full affect. Hang in there, keep busy, try not to think about it. I know thats real hard to do. The more stressed you are about getting better the harder it is. One day soon you will feel improvement.

      Your dose is too low. Keep going up 25mg every 2 weeks until you get to the point where you feel better at the end of the 2 weeks. Staying on 50mg any longer won't make you feel better.

    Hi Claire i am surprised that you were told to double your dose so quickly after one week but then every one is different, i was on 50mg for 4 weeks and nothing so my doctor put it up to 100mg, and i got really sick so i went back down to 50mg , but i think i got ill because i have a lot of problems and one of them includes migraines, and it made them worse , but it could of been the weather too, i suffer in the heat, in the end i had to come off them, but them my depression came back in full force, so i thought maybe i should try again, so i am now back to a 100mg, i have not been to bad , but i am also seeing a counsellor and that helps big time, so i hope you feel better soon and the medication helps you , if you need more help talking is great either to a counsellor or to us , as all the other people said this forum is great ,since i joined only a month ago i found people so kind and caring , except for one but we all got rid of that because of the nasty remarks, no one on here is like that, take care x

    I wouldn’t double up yet. It’s only been a week,. Give it at least 4-6 weeks and then increase to 75 If needed
