Sertraline 50mg - feel like i'm going crazy

Hi guys!!

Just wanted to get some opinions from you guys, and see if maybe anyone else can relate to my problem.

I've been on 50mg of sertraline for about a month now, and I was told that the first few weeks are going to get worse before anythign gets better, however, my anxiety is even worse, I'm having panic attacks all the time, and I'm acting very out of character, constantly arguing over the most insignificant things, and generally just acting mad.

Has anyone else experienced similar side effects?

thanks

Yes I had similar side effects but it is slowly going. I would talk to your Doctor and maybe asking about upping your dose I was on 50mg for 2 weeks then was upped 2 100mg. Hope you feel better and yourself soon.

Hi there, I too think it is normal what you are experiencing. I would hope that it would start to settle down in the next week or so.  I actually went from 50-75mg at 4 weeks so got a little bit more ramped anxiety till about 6 weeks then it settled and I have been pretty good ever since.   smile

Hi Cathryn.   I found that when I went on this drug, that I felt like I was going crazy for the first three weeks, then it settled.  However I am now off all drugs, and after four months am starting to suffer all the horrible withdrawal symptoms.  My recommendation?  Give it up.  My daughter was on one of these for only two weeks, and going "cold turkey" was not too horrific for her.

Ask your GP for some Diazepam to deal with the anxiety while the Sertraline takes full effect.

    Thanks guys!!

It's just so frustrating not being able to recognise myself anymore, and acting like a completely different person without knowing why.

I've read up on it and it seems I'm not the only one who is suffering from ridiculous mood swings and rash actions and decisions. I hope it goes away soon because I can't take anymore sad

    hi cathryn,

unfortunately this does happen in your first few weeks of sertraline, you do feel very out of sorts and can make you act out of your normal character, i was terrible, i've been on sertraline for nearly a year now, i'm on 150mg after starting on 50mg so i understand where you're coming from, it affects everyone in different ways and the side effects vary from person to person :-)
