sertraline

Ive been on sertraline for many years . In the past 5 years Ive gone up to the maximum dose of 200mg. I started to get quite badly depressed but my gp wouldnt change it as it was prescribed by a neurologist years ago to help deal with a neurological disorder and has worked really well for that. Like an idiot I thought that if I decreased it slowly then went back up to the 200mg the full effect would kick in again. needless to say my depression got worse and worse and I went back up to my original dose 28 days ago. I'm having loads of anxiety and feel as depressed as hell . The anxiety is driving me nuts.  I dont know whether 28 days is enough for it to be kicking in .At the moment I feel worse than ever.  Before the increase I had got myself down to 150mg. Any advice would be really really welcome.x

Hi I would say give it more time to work between 6 to 8weeks is the recommended  time frame . best wishes

Hi , yes...practice mindfulness. The anxiety is making the depression a million times worse. Trying to distract myself so I'm not thinking about my anxiety and making it worse . Feel really exhausted as well. Haave managed to get an appointment with my GP - albeit the first available one is 2 weeks away but that gives another 2 weeks to see if things calm down. My pharmacist said that in certain circumstances Gps can increase the dose upwards form the maximum. Just wish there was some light at the end of the tunnel !

      Hi Nikki,

I'm on Sertraline 100mg, and I work full time. I take it just b4 I leave for work and apart from tiredness, I'm not having any problems with them! Hope everything works well with you. All the best,

      Angie smile

I have been on it for 7 years, 100 mg. it was working really well until about 7-8 months ago when I started to get a feeling of anxiety here and there. I waited until my anxiety got really bad before I went to my doctor. He put me up 50 more mg on Monday gone, which is 5 days now and I'm wondering the same thing you are, how long will it take to work? I have never done what you have but I would think that because you went off them it left your system and you had to start over. At 28 days, you noticing a difference should be just around the corner??

I'm really hoping so . I only dropped down to 150 mg and then went back up to the 200mg so it never left my system completely. The panic feelings are driving me to distraction. I dropped the dose REALLY  slowly - over 3 months - so I'm not sure why I feel like this . Its another 2 weeks until my gp appointment and I hope that feel better then than I do now . I really appreciate you replying..I feel very alone in this. My family dont really get it . confused

I know how you feel! I have been on Lexapro 10 mil for approximately 9 yrs when it just stopped working! Tried increasing to 20 with no luck! The GP put me on Prozac, bad news and then to Cymbalta which I could not take either! Now he stated to take 100 mil two weeks ago and I am waiting for some relief! I feel so insecure with myself and sometimes very fearful  in my life! They say it takes a good 6 to 8 weeks for the full effect!

the 6 to 8 week possibility is the only thing keeping me going. I dread whats going to happen if it doesnt work

You are never alone, although it always feels that way. Anxiety is a debilitating disease and unless you have been through it, it is very hard to understand. I have very disturbing thoughts when my anxiety is at its worse which makes it unbearable. I wasn't expecting to have to go through this again but here I am, having high anxiety yet again. It's good you found this forum to talk to others who understand what you're going through. If you want, you can search me on Facebook and private message me anytime you feel you need to talk. Do you feel insecure in your life! Do you suffer from depression?

thank you so much . Its really good not to feel so isolated. Youre right...anxiety is very debilitating . I would love to be one of those people that never experience it.

I would too, never wish this on a single soul. When I hear of people with it, I feel anxiety for them

No I do not feel insecure in my life and I don't feel depressed. Probably a little sad because I'm facing this struggle again. Why do u ask?

I do at times have an empty feeling but I don't know why that is. I have a good life, supportive family but there are times when I feel that I have no one and I can't explain why that is.

I've heard this is a symptom of depression! I hate feeling like that!

Do you have good support? That makes a world of difference. The meds should make that feeling go away.
