Sertraline

Posted , 10 users are following.

I have been on Sertraline 50mg for 4 weeks. The overwhelming feeling of everyday tasks is hard and the loss of appetite. I have no interest in anything but have to continue as I'm a single working parent with 3 teenage children with busy sporting lives. Being an independent woman normally in control I am finding this feeling unbearable. Gosh when will I feel normal, happy, interested again?

Hi ladies! I am sorry all of you are going through this. I get it. I've been there too. But it does get better. You will be better and you will be yourselves again. It's crazy how anxiety and depression are so similar for so many people. I am also I very independent person. I love being alone, reading a book, watching TV etc. But when I'm in anxiety I can't do anything I love. You will all get through this! Unfortunately the meds take a long time. They have to in order to work. While you are taking them, your body is actually creating more serotonin receptors to use the extra from the medication and that takes time. I was once told that if you have the increased anxiety when starting the med, it's a good sign that this medication will work for you. It's a long road, but you'll get there! Has your doctor prescribed any benzos to help you through until the sertraline kicks in? I found lorazepam to be a life saver while I was waiting...

      Hi Lauren

Thanks for your really positive post! I'm 4 weeks in now and although I'm functioning I still have low mood and no interest in doing anything and low in confidence (all not me). I'm hoping that by week 6-8 I'll improve in these areas plus get my appetite back. It's a long hard road and the days are so tough and the thoughts and fear of not improving are overwhelming. Your post makes way for light at the end of the tunnel - thank you x

Hi ladies, how are you all getting on? I'm on sertaline too, 6days on 25mg and 7days so far on 50mg and got terrible side effects. I have 2 children too, 10 & 5 which is hard although my mum does help. I'm suffering from heightened anxiety, low mood, not sleeping. Just started to get my appetite back abit the last 2 days. Hope your all starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel? I have a bit to go and wishing the days away. Go back to work next week too which I could do without but I'm self employed so if I don't work I don't get paid. How are you finding work?

Hi sue, I'm not too bad thanks. My appetite still back now came back after about 2weeks. I've been back at work and it's been ok, just very tired. I'm on 100mg been on that for 11days now and had a good day yesterday woke up again with anxiety but that's to be expected. Mood is still abit low and my motivation but hoping that will improve in the coming weeks. How's things with you? What dose you on now? You feeling any better? Xx

    Hi Sue,

I just started on 50 mg of Sertraline and will move up to a hundred after a week. Maybe checking with your doctor about upping the dosage. It seems like you have to be prepared to go through a rough patch before to see if it will work long term. I'm struggling with anxiety and obsessive thoughts and trying to wrap my mind around how I can function at work. Keep setting. I am glad this forum exists. I am feeling very alone right now.

Hi Tim, when did you start on sertaline? I started 18days ago. My dr wanted to start on 50mg then upto 100mg after a week but I was to scared so I asked if I could split the dose which she agreed but said I can't say on any longer than a week, so I did 6days on 25mg and the rest on 50mg, I go next week so she'll probably up my dose then. How you feeling on it? X

I just started two days ago, so I don't know if there is any effect. I am suffering from anxiety and can't eat. My son is very happy with the results of Sertraline. He's been on it for 8 years. He adjusted quickly with few side effects.Maybe this will be the case with me. I'm not in good place right now. I hope all works out for you. Thanks for chatting.
