I've been on 50mg sertraline for almost six weeks. I felt they werent doing anything so doctor has put the dose up to 100mg. Day 3 and feel like I'm going backwards to six weeks ago. Anyone else had the same? Is there light at the end of this tunnel?

One thing thats seems clear about sertraline is you can experience side effects everytime your dose is changed or even a different brand of sertraline is used. Hang in there.

It is so hard because it really does put you thru the ringer, but stay strong because it will start to work . I am on 150 mg and started with 50mg 10 weeks ago. This week I noticed it really helping . Pray, take your med's, see a therapist if you can and meditation is life changing . Good luck

This is a problem I encountered too.  Rather than examining other solutions the doctor just kept raising the dosage until I was on the 200mg maximum that could be prescribed.  Then the recommended maximum dosage was changed and I was put on 250 mg.  I started to question the goal of the medication ... was it to make me into a zombie?  In which case it was working.  I decided enough was enough and started weaning myself off it.  I am down to 25 mg and should be off it all together in a few weeks  I feel better than I have since I first started taking it.

The doctor respected my choice and continues to monitor my progress

The important thing to remember though is that everyone's case is different  ... even though I only told the doctor after I had started reducing the dose, I would recommend consulting with your doctor before making any changes.

Thanks for reply. I know what your saying about everyone is different. Feel it's trial and error. I will give this 100mg a bit more time like the doctor said and see if there's any changes. I would prefer not to be on any meds. They make me feel so out of control of my self.

I am a couple of weeks ahead of you and still struggling.  I am too hoping that these will start working soon.

    How are you feeling today?

    Hi.

I know how you feel, I too was the same. I was on 50mg, for around 3 months, then was upped to 100mg, and felt awful for it.

I am now starting to feel better, it’s like starting from the beginning again, with the side affects and what not.

But it does get better with time, you’ve just got to stick with it.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, I've had the same. I was on 150mg and hit rock bottom and was hospitalised twice. I, thankfully, have now change to a different antidepressant. Some antidepressant side effects is bad thoughts, I'm not sure if thats what you're suffering, but the dose can go up to 200mg, so they'll probably keep nudging it up.

In Australia, at least, the maximum dose that can be prescribed had been raised.  I don't know what the maximum is now, but I was put on 250 mg.  That is when I decided that enough was enough, and started weaning myself off.  When does a doctor decide that increasing the dose may not be the answer and that instead it may be that that it the wrong medication.

Oh wow really, I stand corrected. UK is 200mg, mind I'm 17 so mine is a lot lower.

Tricky question that, it really depends on how you're feeling. If you hit rock bottom like I did, then change on meds if you agree will be a way forward. Whereas, if you're not 100% but not 0% then trial and error with dose increase is  another option . That's the impression I get from doctors in the UK.
