Just wanting some advice as Iv started taking 50mg sertraline for pnd and anxiety. Dr has also prescribed 10mg propranolol to help with the heightened anxiety. I’m only on day two of sertraline but my head is already feeling fuzzy , don’t really know where I’m at atm , my heart feels like it’s going ten to the dozen. But the thought of taking a beta bloka is making my anxiety worse ! As Iv gone and read up what they do.  Has anyone got any advice with the sertraline and propranolol please

Hi chantelle can't really tell you long term what taking the two together is but I have been on propranolol for 7 years now which I know stops the heart beating ten to the dozen and makes you feel calmer but I've only been on sertraline 10 days so still waiting to see how they are together so far I've had pains that feel like a virus, at least you know someone else is in same sort of boat.

    Hi Chanelle,

Poor you, I know what you are going though. I'm on day 5 and I thought I was losing my mind yesterday. Actually, I didn't sleep for 24hrs from Monday into Tuesday (yesterday). I slept 5 hrs last night, so I'm a bit better today. I have fuzzy head, feel like I'm losing my mind, crying, exhaustion, etc...

I don't have any experience regarding propranolol unfortunately, but the little experience with Sertraline has left me wrecked. BUT, from what people on this forum have been telling me (check out kerry56645), is that the effects subside over time. Now how long is anyone's guess, because it varies from person to person. From what I've read, I'm figuring the average to be about 3 to 6 weeks (again this is my estimate).

Also, a big thing, try not to spend too much time googling the effects, the negative comments, etc. Look for positive results (like forums or videos) of people who have had success.I googled everything about Sertraline before taking it and after my first day and all it did, was make my anxiety worse.

I took Paxil way back in 2002 and at the time, the thought of looking up the side effects hadn't crossed my mind. I just took the drugs and went through the side effects. BUT, I did have some friends who had also taken anti-depressents, so they helped me a lot. Simiilarly, forums like this (amazing IMO), is a great way to share your thoughts and not feel so alone.

It's going to be tough for the first little while, we just have to soldier on, cause we want to get better right? All of use going through this do so because we want to get a handle on our anxiety. Sertraline is a tool we need for now.

I remember last week when my doctor gave my prescription. As she handed it to me she said: "You have to believe it's going to work." I didn't really hear her, but now I know she was right.smile.

    You can do it Chanelle!

    Lemme know what you think.

Hi Chanelle, I was taking propanol before sertraline then both together I thought exactly the same as you. Propanol simply just slows your heart rate it down if it's racing it won't hurt you the other side affects are the sertraline and you will feel these until the drug gets into your system . Then of course on top of those side affects you will have the anxiety thinking about all of the negatives which is heightened because you are ill and also because the sertraline is in your body. I can assure you this happened to me all of these thoughts your having are normal and they will pass in time . I stopped taking the propanol when I stopped feeling panicky which was about 3-4 weeks. It will be subtle you will suddenly find you have more good days than bad days it's not an overnight change it kind of creeps up on you xxxxx

Yea the side effects started fading and now day 9 they’ve come back with vengeance but I have the bad belly and sickly feeling. Determined to keep taking tho as I can’t wait to have my old self back!
