    Hi Lynn,

Sorry to hear you are suffering with side effects of sertraline they certainly are not pleasant. I have been on Sertraline just over 4 weeks now. Side effects for me have been horrible and even still to this day. I use propranolol to take the edge of my anxiety alongside sertraline. I have just recently moved up from 50 mg to 100 mg of sertraline. They say give it 6 - 8 weeks to see benefits, by that time you should feel a benefit. What side effects are you having?

Thank you for replying Robbie. i'm having terrible anxiety, can't t sleep cant eat and its made my tinitus really bad. i just want come off them, but i'm scared how its going to effect me coming off. i've only been on them 18 days, but dont think i can just stop them.

No problem! Lynn if you don't mind me asking why did you start sertraline? Was it for anxiety? The side effects are terrible and I think that's why a lot of people stop taking sertraline early on. If you can I would continue on taking them and battling through if you feel as though you have a under lieing issue that needs addressed. If you cant continue on, before stopping I would speak to your doctor and ask for his advice on stopping sertraline cause I know it can cause a lot of side effects when you just stop taking them. But increased anxiety and sleeping issues are common when first starting the medication. I hope your well Lynn! Keep your chin up

Hi Robbie, I started taking them for anxiety, i have had them in the past and never felt like this. i intend to reduce my dosage gradually and hoping because I've only been on them for just over a couple of weeks it wont be too bad to get off them.

Since you are wanting to stop them doing it the way your doing it is the safest way to do so. Lynn have you tried a beta blocker for anxiety? I take Propranolol alongside sertraline and it defnitley helps.

Yeah I think its prescription only by GP/Doctor. Propranolol belongs to a group of medicines called beta blockers. It's used to treat heart problems, help with anxiety symptoms and prevent migraines. I think its pretty common for treatment with anxiety. I take it alongside my sertraline when I'm anxious and my heart is racing. Do a little research on it and you might find its something that benefits you.

Hi Lynn, I can attest to what Robbie said the side effects are terrible in the beginning! I've been on sertraline almost 3 months now and didn't think I would make it through, but I did and I'd say I'm about 85-90% better! I'm on 100mg for about 3 weeks now. If you aren't having life threatening reaction I would suggest riding it out, the benefits will pay off! Ultimately it's your choice though! If you stop sertraline I hope you find something else that works! Fight on!!!!

Thank you Tina, but i just need stop taking them. i have reduced from 50 to 25 today in the hope that it will gradually reduce. I dont know how long it stays in your system or how quickly the effects of the drugs take to subside in your system. i started off at 25 for 10 days then 50 for the last 7, then as of today back down to 25

I don't think it should be too hard to wean off them since it was a low dose and you didn't take it very long! I wish you luck and keep fighting! You'll find something that works for you!
