    hi there

from what I hear its a roller coaster ride. I was the same way at week 5. I'm on week 9 and I just upped my dose to 75mg. my doctor says that the meds work as you notoce improvement and then it fades out and you need more if your not on theraputic dose. I'm still trying to figure it out too. I just bumped to 75mg. tomorrow with be a week. looking for the light too.

hope you feel better soon. its a ling road. from what people say they do get better.

I'm none days into the dose increase of 75mg. I'm still adjusting . I think I do feel better on 75mg. I take .25mg of ativan of I need. I made it yesterday without. I increased after 8 weeks. my doc said 8 weeks is enough time to know if it works. I still have weird symptoms that come and to. but anxiety is okay and mood is better. they all say it takes time. dont deviate from what yoyr doc says. they are experts. hang in there.

All I can say really is to try to stick with it i myself was on the top dose of sertraline after becoming really unwell with stress and anxiety.Ianxiety.I saw a sychiatrist and was tapered right down off sertraline and put on mirtazapeone with 4 diazapen a day.Iday.I can tell you I was very opposed to taking the diazepam because I thought oh god I don't want to take anything addictive in the end I took the advise given and the change of medication was a complete game changer for me i was able to sleep better and the repetitive thought pattern was stopped by the diazapen after 3weeks I was able to reduce the diazepam slowly down to nill and was able to stay just on the 15mg mirtazapeone.I can assure you I was extremely unwell for 4 months I am now back at work perfectly happy and well again and back living life to the full. I believe its a question of time and medication and you will get better not easy I know when your suffering but you will get better try to remember that and push on. Mental illness had a horrible thing but I'm happy now to be open about my mental health and get rid of the stigma that was attached to it good luck hope you soon start to feel much better .

hi kal, recovery comes in waves, 1 week you think yes cracked this, next week you feel it all coming back. the fact you had a good week means the meds are working they just need to become stable now, give your self at least 8 weeks but preferably 12 before you think about changing anything, and then see if you need to increase, some are too quick to increase before they have really given the dose they on a chance to work, it is a slow process and you need patience but you will get back to where you want to be

Sue thank you for your message I feel encouraged that im not just a lost cause that has to live my life in this horrendous state i.ll definitely give it longer before I increase I really hope it helps ! I have been struggling terrible for so long im desperate for a break and being off work is making me so anxious ...X

Nobody is a lost cause, this is not a 1 size fits all drug, as many and varied drugs are not, they also are not an overnight wave a magic wand drug either, however when we have pushed through what seems to be a nightmare getting our minds and bodies used to them they can and do work very effectively, you are doing well, you will get better and as for work, take one step at a time, if you try and do too much too soon and fail you will get frustrated but if you do small things and achieve them it will give you a boost.

sorry to jump on the post i am on week 4 50mg and then the last 2 weeks at 100mg and feel a lot worse is this normal? i was ready to throw in the towel but after reading posts on here its still quite early days? i think online when people say it should work within 2-3 weeks frightens you into thinking it isnt going to work!

hi chelsea, sorry I have only just read your post. do not ever be frighten that the medication is not going to work, 50 to 100 in only 4 weeks is a lot for your mind and body to get use to I sometimes wonder what the medical profession thinks they are doing but it is what it is. it will take at least 4 weeks on the same dose for you to find any kind of relief, you will hopefully find that your side effects get less and your anxiety calms down, maybe at first just for a few hours a day but as time goes on this will last longer. by 12 weeks you should be somewhere back to normal, with the odd hours or days of not being brilliant. If you continue to feel worse then maybe 100 is too high a dose for you and a conversation with your Dr about slowly reducing back down maybe needed. Do not loose hope, given the right amount of time and the right dose this medication will help you get better, I know it feels like an impossible mountain to climb but you are stronger then you think and you are not alone

thank you sue i totally agree i think its maybe been too much too soon ive only been on 100mg for 2 weeks so you think atleast another 2 weeks of being on that dose and then also by week 12 it will hopefully settle? the horror stories you read do definately frighten you! it really does feel impossible i call it riding the wave but it has definately gotten worse before hopefully better! thank you

as a rule of thumb and not hard and fast, yes you should see some settling of your symptoms all be it not the whole day and not everyday, within 4 weeks of you being on 1 consistent dose, you may find an improvement in your anxiety at first and then your depression, real improvement in both should be at the 12 week mark when you should find you will be able to go about your day but with just a bit of back ground anxiety or some lack of motivation. Do not read too much into the negative/horror stories re these meds a lot of them come from people who unfortunately have a lot more underlying issues going on, just keep doing what you can do and what you can't do not worry about, it will all still be there when you are better

It definitely won't work in 2-3 weeks. It took my daughter until the 6-week mark before she started having good days. And then it was kind of up and down for another 4 weeks with the good days gradually outweighing the bad ones. I wish folks who are suffering would not have to wait so long but these meds really do take that long. However, the imporant thing is that they really do work! By daughter was 100% recovered from her very severe depression by the 12 week mark and to me it was like a miracle. Please tell yourself every day that you will get better. You will. And you're not alone. We all care about you so keep us posted on your progress.
