Sertraline - after one 100mg tablet

Hi, I'm new here and looking for alittle support. I hope you can help me? I suffer with really bad migraines and anxiety and depression. So I take topiramate as a prophylactic and Sumatriptan at the onset.

I have just been prescribed 100mg Sertraline fom my anxiety and depression. Originally the doc was going to start me on 50mg, but then decided that becacuse I'm over 6ft tall, of a large bone structure (and slightly overweight IMO)  meant I could handle starting at 100mg. The chemist pulled me up on the Topiramate saying it lowers my resistancy against an epileptic fit if taken with Sertraline. I explained I don't have epilepsy and she said that was ok then. My anxiety is awake now though and trying to convence me I will keel over if I take them together.

I try not to read the leaflets that comes with tablets if I can help it as I will think It's going to be all over for me after one one tablet, so I would ask someone close to me to read it. It has been years since I've had to read one and there is nobody, so today I read it myself. It says to tell my doctor is I take triptans. Great. I take Triptans.

She advised I take it before I go to bed to try and absorb as many side effects as possible.

Well yes, I had a pretty sleepless night, but was that my anxiety or the tablet?

I ignored all my anxieties, believing that's what they were and just took it, thinking, she's a health profesional and got her to check contra-indications before you left....

My head feels like it wants to divorce my body....it feels like someone wants to take the top off it.....

Should I disturb my doctor again? This stuff hasn't even started has it?

call your doctor.  You may want to take the zoloft in the morning if it is keeping you awake at night.

    hi bella2a,

welcome to the forum. before we go any further, let me tell you this is the perfect place for you to be.......:-) we are all here for the same reason, depression, anxiety and ocd and all other kinds of issues in life, it's hard to get your head together at first, the doctor has given you sertraline to take?? i have been on this medication for 11 months, and i can tell you straight away, that it's done wonders for me compared to what i was like this time last year.

whenever you feel uneasy about anything speak with your doctor, that's what they are there for, to help you and advise you, but if you need any help and can't get to the doctor, the people on this forum are extremely supportive and we will all do our best to keep your spirits up. take care and keep in touch  :-)

    Hi Bella,

Actually don't be suprised if you notice some of the side effects from Zoloft after your first dose. Don't panic it will be alright, I had a lot of the side effects from it as well and yes anxiety can be one... But every person is different and may experience side effects while some people may experience none at all. If I had a lot of worries I would definitely speak to my doctor about drug interactions and side effects of the Zoloft. Just to be sure everything is ok If I were you I would speak to my Doctor. I pray everything works out well for you and good luck. smile

By the way your not the only person that hates reading the leaflets that come with the meds, everything they put on them (side effects, e.t.c.) is enough to scare anyone away from taking the meds (lol) but they are very informative.

Well here I am, i didn't get in sooner. I went downhill very rapidly. Fever, shakes, bright light, well any light actually, loss of power in my legs, vomiting etc. White as a sheet. unconscious. Ended up in hospital. There is definately a contra-indication with Topiramate. I crawled into my doctors this morning and she is going to see what she can do for me. Apparently there are not many drugs you can mix with Topiramate, it's a stroppy git by all accounts. I'd say so is sertraline!

The hospital said what happens apparently, is the Sertraline strips any Topiramate in my system. So when the chemist said it would lower my resiliance to an epileptic fit, it in turn lowered my resiliance to a migraine attack, so I ended up with the mother of all migraines. When you consider I often end up in hospital on a drip with a migraine anyway.....well....

I guess that's the end of that then. Bad cocktail. rolleyes

I'd like to stick around though..... It seems to be a very good place to be. Thank you.

sorry to hear all this!! you ended up in hospital..............well that sounds like it's not for you then, so Topiramate, is that for epilepsy?? i too am epileptic but i am no longer medicated for it as i have been fit free for around 7 years now, i stopped taking my medication at a rebellious 22 years of age and never taken any others since.

i have had crippling migranes with this medication, the first few weeks is the worst.  i hope you manage to get sorted out with something more suitable for you smile
