Sertraline & alcohol

What are people's experience of sertraline and alcohol? I know you arent meant to drink on any anti depressants but I know people do. I am aware it can reduce its effectiveness. Interested to hear people's views, good or bad!

I've been on 50mg Sertraline about 8wks. Was reluctant to drink. Went out with daughter for her birthday.I was fine one moment then not, memory went no idea how I got home. Made me feel vulnerable.Plus next day was high then day after grim. All in all it seems to have sedetive effect on me after drinking. So have decided just to leave out.

I live on my own and have to be responsible for me and feel with alcohol on board am not.

Mind the effects of Sertraline have begun to work so alcohol can take a back seat for me. Plus upped dose to 75mg... Upward and onward.

    Hello

I personally haven't experienced any side effects with alcohol. I have a couple of drinks most evenings.

Perhaps we get amount of alcohol in check.Couple o glasses wine was fine. A bottle of wine + or a sesh on Real Ale. Perhaps not. Moderatation the way forward.

I was too frightened to have a drink but forgot in my excitement once and had a G &T. Felt ok then and next day. I've tried having two and was still fine. Still worried though and am so going on holiday tomorrow and don't want to be a spoilsport so probably will have a couple of drinks most days. I think, like every side effect, different people react differently. You just have to try it. No harm done if you do react badly, you know not to do it again!

i'm on 150mg and i drink, not heavily and not when i'm working during the week, i have a couple at home, maybe wine or vodka and coke or something friday or saturday, sometimes both, i'll have a few and it doesn't affect my medication. i did at first on 50mg, made my depression worse, but alcohol is a depressive anyone so maybe best to avoid completely till your feeling more yourself :-) that's what i did, didn't drink for 2-3 months and i'm fine with it now, but i'm not a heavy drinker anyway :-)

blimey, that doesn't sound nice at all, i used to be a very heavy drinker in my 20's, i'm 37 now and it was probably the binge drinking and god knows what else from my younger years that i ended up on this medication anyway!! if only i could turn back time..............i would have been T total for the rest of my days!! but you have to live and learn, these days i'm a lot more reserved with my drinking and i don't get blotto anymore, just a bit tipsey which works for me :-)

I've been on sertaline for about 8 months now. As I've seen others say, a couple of relaxing drinks tend to be fine, bit getting drunk tends to cause side effects.
