Sertraline and carb / sugar cravings

Posted , 6 users are following.

I am a 35 yo female who has recently started on sertraline 50 mg for the last two months. It has helped me tremendously and basically saved my life. The only downside to this is i have been eating way more and craving junk food. And its almost like i dont care but i really do if that makes sense. Can anyone shed some light and provide tips on how to keep ontop of this. My weight is something that has always bothered me i dont want this added stress!

    Dee tee,

Hey glad the Zoloft is working for you. 50mg did nothing for me but, when I was bumped up to 100mg. Then things started happing. My trigger foods are sugar and diary. Not that it was directly related to the Zoloft. I am now on what some call "The Mean Green." It's kale, celery, cucumber, apples, lemon with a bit of ginger. It's a juice fast. I'm on my fourth day. I did this last December for two weeks. It completely took away my cravings for. carbs, sugar... I found myself craving raw vegetables. I started a gym membership and lost around 18 pounds. It was great! The thing is, if you reintroduce the trigger foods/comfort foods, you'll be back to square one. When I got off the fast, Last Dec., I was good for five months, but then I allowed a few of my trigger foods into my diet.

What I believe is much of our food is addictive, particularly sugar. And thinking you can have it from time will activate the cravings. It's like an alcoholic thinking they can have a few beers and not fall off the wagon.

There is nothing you can do.  I have anxiety about my weight and was told this was a weight neutral drug, but I put on 12 kilos in a year.  I am back on them and after 3 months I can feel it happening again. I purposely waited to lose extra weight before I went back on them.  I have read allot of forums and scientific reasons about how our bodies process carbs differently.  I am not an expert or scientist, but I have been on them twice and it must be will power from the g-ds that will stop it from happening.  Do you want to be happy or slim?  When they invent an anti-anxiety tablet that can do both Pfizer will be trillionaires not just the billionaires they are now.
