Sertraline and Dreams

Hello

I've been on sertraline for a couple of months and its working great most of the time.

Unfortunately though when I go to bed I get really long, involved - usually bad - dreams.

I've tried hot milk with cinamon and sugar, baileys, and even taken calms or nytol if my brain won't stop whirling, but nothing will make them go away.

Does anyone else get these?

How do you make them go away? Do they go away once you stop taking sertraline?

Thanks for any help.

    hiya flump

vivid strange dreams are very common with anti depressants, they are quite a common symptom of depression too  :? so it's not necessarily the meds that are causing them, however they will go in time and are nothing to worry about flump

    cheers,

Just read the first post and wanted to point out that you can't take natural sleep remedies with Sertraline as they contain Valerian. Make sure you read what medications you can't take!

Hi, I have been getting some very strange dreams as well (I find they are much worse if I have had a drink) but the tablets are making me so tired the dreams don't wake me although I do remember them.

I simply love the dreams I've been having since I started taking Sertraline, they are really really vivid and I can remember them after I wake up.

Yes, I too love the extremely vivid dreams I have with sertraline, even though they are almost always traumatic. I've been beaten black and blue by a horrible man, chased by lions and tigers, had my house burn down and lost everything, people moving into my house without permission, all the things I'm most scared of. But I enjoy it really, I find them cathartic. I wonder how the sertraline does that?

I switched to Sertraline about a month ago and I get very vivid nightmares which make me not want to go to sleep, I wake up crying my eyes out!! Although I have had issues with the vivid dreams since childhood so I think the Sertraline has made it worse :-/ I too need a bit of advice on this one....

    Hello

I'm actually surprised to see that most people here have that same side effect (having vivid dreams).

I've been on sertraline for a little bit under a year (about 10-11 months). And I kinda combined Cold turkey and tapering when I quit, if that make sense.

Before I started taking sertraline, I was a vivid dreamer. I remember being able to recognize i was dreaming and even able to lucid dream every once in a while. However, once I started taking sertraline everything was blank. I wasnt able to recall any dreams at all; nothing.

I've been off of sertraline for about 3 weeks now, an ever since I quit I've been having vivid dreams. Sometimes ill have flashbacks of the dreams during the day. They'll just pop up randomly and I kinda like it cuz it gives me things to think about.
