Hi. Has anyone here noticed a change/decline in thier sex drive/libido since taking sertraline. I have and I am thinking of coming off it because I miss that sexy feeling.

Hi! Yes I did massively! This is my ninth week on them and I do believe that is passing! How long have u been on them?

Yes...mine is completely nonexistent!!! Much worse than when I was taking Citalopram. I've been on Sertraline for almost 2 months now and I'm hoping this side effect will lessen over time.

Does any one know of any antidepressant that make you feel better. i havent tried prozac as my doctor told me they put you on weight.

    take care all

      Hi Karen,

I felt great on Citalopram for 2 years and then they just quit working for me and I hit an all time low. I've been on Sertraline now for almost 2 months and have a lot of side effects but its working for my depression so far.

    Hi Denise,

This seems to be a very common side effect of many drugs, not just a fluctuation in libido which can be down to the depression, but an actual suppression of the sexual urge and function. I've just come off Venlafaxine cold turkey because of this side-effect. I discussed things in detail with a psychiatrist and I have just strating on 50mg of Sertraline. I'll be well-unhappy if that side-effect is following me!

Drugs affect each of us differently so I will remain hopeful and I encourage you to do so to. But don't hesitate to think about changing drugs, with your doctor's advice, if the side-effects are intolerable. There's no point in a drug that's going to make you feel worse or damage your basic quality of life.

    Very best wishes,

Thanks all for your responses. Been taking 50mg sertraline for 7 months now. Anxiety isn't as bad as before so I may start to wean myself off in the next couple of months- we'll see.

      Denise.

Hi there...I have been on sertraline for approx dozen years and have absolutely no sex drive! Does anyone know when you come off these drugs how long it takes for sex drive to come back? I am currently tapering off...

Ever since i started taking sertraline i would find it hard to get sexually stimulated and it feels i don't get a proper erection anymore and its really annoying

I guess it's always a case of weighing the benefits of the drug on one's mood against the downside of the side-effects. As a 47-yr old sexually active, monogamous male, I would find the longterm loss of my sexual function intolerable and it would impact on my quality of life (even masturbation is a source of stress-relief)...really hoping that last comment doesn't cause offence to anyone reading this post!

I'm only 5 days into 50mg dosage of Sertraline and I definitely still have my libido (after 2 months on another med which suppressed even morning erections - I missed my manhood and it made me feel much worse). How long have you been taking this med Tom?

Best wishes & good luck from a fellow frustrated sufferer ;-)
