Sertraline and stomach issues

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi all,

I have been on Sertraline 50mg for 41 days now. In the beginning I had terrible side effects (tremors, tingling, skin crawling, muscle jerking, cramps in my calfs). Those have subsided now, save for the occassional arm twitch. On the whole the meds have helped with my panic attacks and depression.

However, for the last 2 or so weeks i have been experiencing upper LQ abdominal pain (especially after eating), lots of gas and hard irregular bowel movements. Is this normal and another side effect?? I have health anxiety and these things certainly dont help....

Thanks in advance xx

I know it sounds daft but I think you need to increase. I personally felt awful till I reached 100mg and even better at 150mg. It will be worth it in the end

    Good luck

Hi Bee, I’ve been on 50 mg for almost as long as you have, and it’s also helped my anxiety by leaps and bounds, but I still to have stomach issues this far into the journey, there not as bad as when I started but I still have them and mine seem to move around as well, sometimes upper sometimes lower. My Dr says that is a totally normal side effect. Hang in there 50 mg works for me and for a lot of people. Everyone is different.

can i ask how you took your pills? with food, just with water?

also, do you need to burp a lot and get a feeling like a balloon is trapped in your upper stomach?

I've tried both ways. Was burping alot and had sharp/crampy pains on my upper left side. Got something from the pharmacy to take 1st thing in the morning, 30mins before food (it lessens the amount of acid produced by the stomach). So far so good, have not had the same issues since taking it for the past 3 days!

      Thanks for your answer!

So you had those symptoms too, when you took it with food?

I know these acid blockers - sure be sure to dont take them for a longer period of time!
