Sertraline and us action

Posted , 6 users are following.

There is some anti sertraline action going on in the USA because this drug dangerously raises cholesterol and narrows arteries to the brain severe headaches and eventually vascular dementia

I'm now going onto alternate days of taking it.

Don't know about withdrawal symptoms but taken 50mg every day for only 6 weeks

there are things on US websites linking sertraline with cholesterol increase. my own leaflet that came with my uk sertraline talks about sertaline causing loss of blood flow and less oxygen to the brain from arteries narrowing as a result of sertraline..

look beyond the side effects section to the section on the leaflet entitled something like "since the sertraline was licensed, users / patients have reported the following,,,..."

you will see the above in the list somewhere

That's really scared for me as my cholesterol level has jumped to 9.5 and have had to start taking statins. Do you have any more info or a link to the US research so I can show my Doctor?

My leaflet also lists cancer as a side effect that's the main reason I'm coming off it, I'll have a look on the withdrawal posts on this site as there was a link to research showing the link between sert and high cholesterol x

my cholesterol was 5 just a few months ago before i went on sertraline. my wife and i eat a mediterranean diet. i had my cholesterol tested last week. after taking sertraline for 5 weeks my cholesterol is 7.5.

the blood test also found low vit d after taking sertraline.

My cholesterol has gone up as well tho my diet hasn't changed, I didn't attribute this to the sert until recently. Also worried about the blood flow restriction as I get terrible migraines that haven't improved with age as I was advised .

Have looked on the other posts but can't find the study link to high cholesterol.

It's not on patient forum UK

If you Google sertraline and cholesterol you will find some link to American website that make the link between taking sertraline and increasing cholesterol

I put a link to a research paper for a study done for 12 weeks,  and it showed an increase in triglycerides and insulin, so it stands to reason that over a longer period cholesterol would also be affected.  Others responding said their cholesterol went down when they went off.  The trick is getting off without horrible protracted withdrawal, because the doctors have people taper way too fast and withdrawal symptoms off SSRIs and the like is horrific.

the above post is from a user on the the'  sertraline withdrawal does it ever go away' section on this site. Take a look this user is very knowledgeable about all aspects of AD's
