Sertraline and Zyban
Posted , 4 users are following.
My psychriatic doctor prescribed Zyban two weeks ago to boost Sertraline. Have been on sert. since May 2016 starting dose 50 mg to 150 mg gradually.
My symptoms are not going away completely, and that is why I am on Cyban 150 mg twice a day. Still unmotivated, sad, low mood etc etc.
Can anybody help me if they had same experience as me of serts. and whether Zyban may help?
I am scared and frustrated....

Hi there. I know exactly how you feel. Been on sertraline since July last year. Made some progress as I was at rock bottom. However still very anxious and down. My GP said go up to 200mg which I'm trying but now feeling sick and spaced out. Its worth a try adding something on. Maybe it needs more time which are the words I have come to hate when you are desperate to feel better. Hope things pick up for you

Yea please do. It's good you are seeing a specialist my GP is guessing his way around I'm sure. His next move for me is to taper off and change antidepressants. But that's scarey too! Hope you get on well

Yes, that was the reason, I don't want to taper off because it will take time, and then taking something else means going to hell hole again,so I am trying Zyban, and on Wednesday I will know more.... he told me there are several combinations before getting into tampering off. I am absolutely terrified, which doesn't help at all,

Isabel, how long have you been on the 150mg dose?
Personally, for me, if I have been on 150mg for 2 months and it doesn't seem to be working, I would increase it to 200mg before adding another med. This is just me. I struggled for decades to accept being on med and it's hard enough remembering to take one med, let alone two. Also, hard enough having side effects of one med, so I can't imagine dealing with the new side effects of other med also.
I am 43 years old, and I figured I will be on lots of meds if I am lucky enough to age.
But obviously I am not a doc, and if he thinks you should, I wish you the best of luck and let us know.

Hi, I have been on 150mg for 6 months, my GP could'nt help anymore, So I am treated by a Psychriatic Doctor, we are trying combining two meds, because to change to another means a long time plus horrid after effects, which I am terrified of, this is my third relaps, and if I get normal again, I won't stop the meds, I will gradually go down to 50 mg maintenance dose, I don't think I would survive another one, the think is I am much better, but is standing still half way. And my mornings are bad, and by the way taking Zyban didn't course me any trouble at all.
Thanks for your reply, and I'll keep u posted 👍🏻

Gosh Isabel you sound almost a replica of me. This is my second time with this horrible illness. I feel the same kind of half way. I'm feeling horrible from the 200mg so I think adding something in can't be any worse, especially if it has caused you no bother. Look forward to hear how you get on. Isn't it terrible to be scared of everything. I've also been put on folic acid and iron and now I'm thinking they are making me feel worse! Oh lord. Keep bashing on everyone

Unfortunately GP's only prescribe standard meds with the hope they will work, possibly they are fine for most of people, but a minority there have not that luck. Especialist are doing exactly the same but they have more experience and can try alternatives. To tell you the truth I think they don't have a clue, you would expect a medication to relieve the problem, without beeing suicidal... I wonder if they are working on alternative drugs more efficient that the ones that are around, I started deps. 7 years ago due to my husband sudden, unexpected death. Never had mental problems before, healthy, and happy most of the time.... now I am a wreck

Isabel, sorry this this your third relapse...yep, you should not get off of it anymore. You are much smarter than me, it wasn't until my 6th or 7th relapse that I decided I was never going to get off my med again. You see, I wasn't serious when I said it took me decades to accept my condition as well as being on meds.
But I was so stupid, in my most recent attack that I just got out of, my 8th relapse? I learned that 25mg wasn't enough of a maintenance dose for me so please be very careful when you start to titrate to lower your dose to a maintenance dose. I'd like to share all my stupidities so others won't make them.
Good that Zyban didn't cause any side effects. Sounds like you're doing good.

I wonder that too. I'm fed up getting various generic drugs . Pharmacists persist in saying they are the exact same . If only they had to take them. Sorry about your husband that must be very hard. Mine started after a brain op which I might not have come through. Ridiculous thing was healing physically was the easy bit!

No thankfully. It was the top of my spine was opening and my brain was moving down into it. I had to get the back of my brain put back into position a part of my spine removed and then they rebuilt my neck with titanium. It's sounds awful and was for a bit but nothing compared to mental health! This time my anxiety has come back out of the blue. Think this puzzles psychology. As well as they like you to have a good reason for them to work on. I'm being very harsh!

You had a hell of an ordeal, glad you got over the op, you have just anxiety ?did u have it before the op?. Some people get mental problems out of the blue, without reason, at least I know where mine comes from. Family and friends don't understand, telling me to be possitive (what's that?), and keep busy. (No motivation whatsoever) and this is the best. (I am a drama queen)

Oh well the drama queen made me laugh! I know, if only they knew what it's like you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy. I didn't have anxiety before. It came on straight after my op, so I was trying to recover while dealing with something I couldn't understand. This summer I was having some health problems again and can only guess that triggered it again. It starts with anxiety which brings depression as mine is so crippling everything is a challenge for me and I never get peace from it. Happy days!

I am sorry to hear that.Perhaps they didn't put your brain in a correct position?. Sue the surgeon....That is bad luck, if before the op you didn't have any problem. Tell your GP you wan't to see a specialist, if 200mg don't work. GP'S don't have a clue.
