Sertraline benefits

My experience with Sertraline overall is that it is effective in supporting me to be balanced and keep perspective. Yes there are mild side effects to begin with but compared to debilitating anxiety and catastrophising ,they have been very bearable and after 10-12 weeks , almost gone ( mild headache ,some nausea , ) . It is important for me to also help myself in addition ways and avoid sitting waiting for the chemicals to work - yoga, walking, allotment, no / or Aldi 5% wine , eating high protein food regularly to avoid hunger sensations. Hunger sensations = triggering anxiety loop !. I feel content again , calm and have slowed down a gear . It's great ! I take 50mg. I also work full time. I'm a bit tired on rising in the morning but that soon goes after about 45 mins.

Hi Jo, yes sertraline helps with my anxiety and depression a lot.But I am trying to find out if other people taking it have a problem of not being able to wake up in the morning.

It sounds like you are doing really well . It’s good to hear positive comments.

Hi Jo, thanks for sharing your experiences. I am currently into my 3rd week on 50mg after a meltdown due to IBS. I have seen a slight improvement but still feel down and uninterested in things I used to like. Like you I find it hard to get up in the morning. Should I give them more time?

Absolutely !. They work by keeping serotonin , a hormone that helps our feeling of contentment, in the brain longer before it gets absorbed. They take time to build up and be effective. I found reducing all my other brain stimulation really helped ! I spent more time outside , kept away from noisey pubs and friends ,tv programs etc , and used headspace app to help quieter the mind . It took time , and 3 months later my head is calm , I feel more content with things and enjoy and cope with life again. I don't wake up bouncing out of bed with happiness....but I do have a sensation of calmness and peace. Don't wait for a sudden change. Use other self help strategies and above all....be kind to yourself and give yourself and lots of time .Good look.
