Hi, I'm james, all my life I have been struggling with anxiety but just got on with it, but since the start of the year it's been unbearable and I'm really suffering with health anxiety, I suffer with dry eyes and my jaw hurts quite a lot and my mind goes wild and tells me I'm going to go blind and/or death and I spend all my time worrying and researching my issues. I was put on 50 mg sertraline 4 weeks ago and upped to 100 mg 5 days ago so a total of 4 weeks. I need some support and words of encouragement as I'm so worried about the side effects and feel as though I will never be my normal self again and it saddens me so much sad I have been getting headaches, constant worry and panic, the need to be reassured constantly and I cry all the time and feel like I can't deal with life or my health problems. I wake up in a mess every morning and slowly get better through the day but I'm really not myself and am wondering do these pills really work? Any words of advice would be so appreciated, thanks smile

Hi James. Sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. I have been on 50mg of Sert since the start of Feb 17. These pills do work but take time (up to 12 weeks). I have gradually improved since starting to take them but find that I still have up and down days (with more up days than down as time moves on).  The side effects of Sert are frightening (for me the dreams and a feeling of disconection from my body are the worst) but they do reduce in severity over time. I would recommend that you continue with the Sert as prescribed by your GP. I found these Forums very helpfull and supportive. It is important to realise that a lot of people are going through the same things and that you will get back to your normal self again. Good luck.

Bless you james. Please access whatever local talking therapy that you can. Where I live in the UK it is possible to self refer but maybe the GP is a better route for an 'emergency' access.

If you live in the UK please contact Samaritans. They are there 24/7.

Wherever you are in the world then there will be support help lines of some sort. SAgain, in the UK we have a small charity called No Panic with a daytime (until 10pm) phone line.

Sert will work for you but it takes time.

Mate, if you have the resources, go and get some massage, or Acupuncture or Hynotherapy. The latter is expensive but boy, if you get a great and experienced person, they will help you so much.

Check out Anxiety UK on the web.

Join other discussions on here as there are some lovely supportive people.

    Take care mate.

Hi James - How are you doing? You mentioned that you wake up in a mess every morning. I was this way and the doctor prescribed 50mg Trazadone to help me sleep. This has helped me a lot and I'm sure I'm also getting the benefits of 150mg Zoloft. I still have some horrible days but I'm startng to get more better days and my mornings are tollerable. I've had a few bad days of depression which concern me but theses have occurred when I didn't sleep well and hopefully with the increase in Zoloft they will disapear.
