sertraline day 1!

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hey guys,

So finally after 6 months of going back and forth and whether to take the sertraline or not, finally took 25mg last night about 6pm.

Sleep was ok, only woke up about 3pm but managed to get back to sleep.

This morning I feel very tired, sick and have an icky stomach BUT have to remember that these are the side effects to expect.

It very difficult as I know it is my anxiety that's making me feel worse than I do and I just have to remember that.

I struggle as I am the sort of person that would even take painkillers for a headache, and have never touched drugs in my life so to take something that effects chemicals in the brain is extremely daunting, however if helps me in the long run then I will fully support.

Thanks to everyone on here, I couldn't have made the decision without all the feedback and honesty from others experiences!

well done on making the decision to take the meds, it's hard i know, but sometimes you have to just do these things, one bit of advice i will give you, is try not to over analyze how you are feeling too much, monitor your moods etc certainly, but try not to over obsess about it, otherwise you will be looking at every single thing and that could lead to more anxiety for you in the first few weeks. your anxiety may highten over the next few days, don't worry about that, it will settle down :-)

Thank you for the advice! It's was certainly a tough decision and I've got to stick with it and give it at least 6 months.

I'm having cbt also so should interact quite nicely and be back to my old self in no time 😀

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and offer support, means so much.

no problem, any time, that's we are all here for, i'm just glad that it helps you out and yes, 6 months is a realistic goal to aim for, it's so hard though, you just want to get back to normal and get better straight away but these things take time, and then you have to find the right dose for you also.  i started on 50mg and i'm now on 150mg, kept yo yoing up and down all the time, didn't know where i was upto and my doctor suggested in increased to 150mg and since then i haven't really had any problems with the medication, seems to have settled down nicely and i am ALOT more relaxed and chilled out than i used to be, my smile is back on my face and i don't have the racing thoughts and anxiety any more, i have my moments don't get me wrong but they are so much easier to get through and don't last half as long as they used to, sometimes i'd be like that for days./weeks on end, it was horrible, my brain is processing things better and i'm able to control my moods alot better too, you will get there, don't you fret about that :-)

Good stuff!I started on 25 mg too,I wanted my body to get used to the drug before I increased it to 50mg,which have been on now for a few months. The side effects did decrease over a few weeks, though we're all different. So hopefully,in your case too,you will notice a difference in a few weeks time.Well done you!All the best x

I knew to expect some side effects but when they happen you always think the worse, but then that's why I'm on them in the first place because of thinking the worst!

Doctor has been great, as have my family and other half, it's just going to get a little bit worse before it gets better, but worth it in the long run.

Thank you for the support 😀 I'm glad that it has really helped you and got you to a better place xx
