Sertraline - Day 20

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi,

I’ve been on Sertraline for 20 days now - I am better than what I was 2 weeks ago and having more good days than bad days. Not getting the intrusive thoughts as much but I’m just wondering if it’s normal to still feel quite ‘down’ on the bad days after 20 days? And when should the tablets start levelling out?

Thank you

It is said that it can take a while. Same thing here. I finally notice some improvement but I am definitely not there yet. Now all almost four weeks on 50 mg.

Hi Lauren great you’ve seen an improvement, I started on 50 and increased to 100 after 4 weeks I think now you just need to experiment with the right amount for you, be aware you may get more side affects when you increase but they will subside, you can then reassess how you feel in another 4 weeks, you’ll get there xx

Yes Lauren that’s perfectly normal after only 20 days. The fact that your having more good days then bad right now means the medication and the amount of mg your on is working. Don’t change a thing and remember it takes a good 6-8 weeks for this to start working properly. Good luck and don’t forget only your Dr can advise you to increase or decrease your medication!!

Joe i disagree with you I think we know ourselves much better than doctors & whether our dose is correct , but would reiterate Never just to  increase or decrease their dose without consulting a doctor

Well I know personally that I’m not going to assume that I know more than a medical doctor but I know this site sure does have a lot of amateur doctors who normally just tell people to do things because it works for them, which is why I always say talk to a Dr first!

Ah really I’ve not experienced that here I’ve always found people give the best advice given their experience on the drug, agree  its always best to speak to a doctor however personally my dose has changed 3 times over the past 2 years, my first increase from 50-100 after 4 weeks advised by a doctor but instigated by myself which made a massive positive change, same as Lauren a. Improvement but still had some symptoms . increased  after 1 year upto 125 for 3 monthsas  as I had more symptoms creep in, instigated by me approved by my doctor. maintained mostly on 100g for the past 9 months. I’m now planning on coming off Sertraline, instigated by me and agreed with my doc to reduce gradually when I feel ready. My treatment has all been instigated by me listening to my body and mind, I’m just a number to my doctor they don’t know me I’m one of many to them, they are too over worked to even read my history before an appointment, if I can get an appointment.
