Sertraline day 30

A little of my story, i was on sertraline 3 years ago and went off of it last summer. I didn't taper, literally just had so much going on that i missed my dr appt and stopped. I didn't have any immediate effects but slowly over this last year I started getting more and more depressed. I ended up being hospitalized a month ago for suicidal ideations. i was there a week and they started me back on sertraline. Its now been 30 and I'm just not feeling much better. I did notice that my appetite and sleep have improved a small amount. Im just so anxious to feel better. My psychiatrist has been raising my dose abd last week we went up to 200 mg, after that i started feeling my anxiety return with a vengeance. We moved back down to 150 mg starting today. Im desperate to hear from others who have had similar experience and gotten success with sertraline. Im hoping since it worked last time it will work again. I know it can take 6-8 weeks to really kick in. If I'm on my fourth week hopefully the days will start getting easier soon. Just wanting to hear from others who have similar stories. Thanks

Hi amy, I am a bit confused as to how long and what dose increases you have had? it seems to me that you have gone from 0 to 200 in 3 weeks then back down to 150? if that is the case whoever is advising you is not giving each dose time to settle and that is probably why you are feeling up and down, this medication is slow acting and does take too kindly to being rushed or changed frequently, try to settle on 150 before making anymore changes, hopefully if this is the correct dose for you you should see some improvements within another 4 weeks

Yes it was from nothing to 200 in less than 4 weeks. Im not changing again for awhile unless this dose is too high as well. How do you know if your dose is too high?

if your dose is too high, the side effects will be severe and constant as will be your anxiety and\or depression and you will see no improvement or any let up after being on the same dose for 3 to 4 weeks, it is hard to judge in the first few weeks because of the time it takes to get into your system, most people start low and slowly increase if they have to unfortunately you were not given this option so only time will tell for you now but as it has worked previously for you I am sure it will work again once you have found your optimum dose
