Sertraline - definition of anxiety
Posted , 4 users are following.
I am taking 50mg sertraline for anxiety set off by one particular trigger over which I have no control.
Can I ask, what is your particular anxiety trigger, or is it more general?
One of the side effects of this drug ironically is increased anxiety. Is your anxiety increased? And what do you feel anxious about?
Desperately trying to understand the mechanics of this horrible illness.

How awful for you. My husband was seriously injured in a car accident 15 years ago and I suffered post traumatic stress because I was a passenger and had no control over the situation, replaying every moment in slow motion for years after. I'm fairly sure that is when I started slipping into general depression.
Is the sertraline working for you? How long have you been taking it?

My anxiety has definitely increased with Zoloft, but I am more level headed if that makes any sense. My triggers seems to be a mystery to me right now. I've always been a bit on the nervous side, but with my husband having a heart attack 2010,my mother passing 2017, falling and hitting my head on a rock same day my mother passed, seemed to increase my anxiety to the max. So maybe it's a health anxiety. Went to a psychologist but he said to just breath in and breathe out, no help to me. But anyway that's my story.

Hi Brenda
Hmm, breathe in breathe out, pretty sure we're all doing that!
Have you tried Mindfulness? All the rage at the moment and has been scientifically proven to help. I used a free course with "Headspace" to get me started then subscribed. Talks about breathing in a more meaningful way!

I was on citalopram for 7 years but it stopped working. Changed to sertraline and had horrible side effects so now a week in on venaflaxine. My normal triggers ate having to get in cars or on a bus! However the underlying anxiety is pretty much always there with a fear of dying. I think CBT helps have you tried it? X
