Hi all, for nearly 3yrs I was on sertraline, at the beginning it was awful. Dizziness, lack of interest, mood swings tired loss of appetite throwing up headaches and so on. I started at 25mg till we found the right dosage for me and that was 150mg. At this stage I was ok no anxiety, no panic attacks no fear no suicidal thoughts none of what I felt before. All of that was gone. I was me again. I felt good. When I started I was 58kg went down to 42kg had to wear kids cloths. Once I found the right dosage and started feeling good again I had everything back including my weight. Last year because I was feeling good I decided to stop it. My Gp told me it was too soon but I heard so much about the tablets I just wanted to stop them.
After a few wks I realised was to soon and asked my Gp to put me back on them. So I'm back on them and this time I went up very quickly. I started straight at 50mg then 100 then 150 and back to 200mg. I promise you it's worth going through all this side effects because after you will feel good again. This is my positive story to all of you. I really really hope it works for all of you as it did for me. Any questions please ask I will answer. Best of luck to all of you stay strong fight don't give up your friend ILDA xxx

Hi I was prescribed 50mg 6 weeks ago the first 2 -3 weeks I experienced every side effect available I persevered and these eventually receded however my anxiety and panic was unaffected I returned to the gp this week and my dosage has been increased to 100mg. I have a detached feeling currently and the palpitations and anxiety still have a grip I'm prepared to persevere because I need my life back any advice and support will be greatly appreciated

Hi Alan ask your Gp to give you propranolol it helps with palpitations and anxiety.
As I took this medication before at it really worked well I've been prescribed again but I don't stay long on them after 2 wks I had to increase it till I reached 200mg. Why don't you talk to ur Gp and ask to go up every 2 wks this way you won't feel that many side effects and when u reach 150mg stay on them for at least 3 wks if you don't feel better go up to 200mg and stay on it. It works it might take a while but it works. First time I took them I remember been on 200mg for 8 wks and on week 9 I was perfectly fine. This time at 200mg 2 weeks I was good. I take them in the morning and propranolol 3x a day and amitrityline a night time if I need 10mg or 20mg. It also helps on those days my sleep decides to leave me. Keep in touch and don't give up you won't regret it best of luck ilda

Hi ilda
Just read your post and now I am very unsure what to do.
I have been on sertraline 100ml since may.
Before that I was taking 50mg from Feb.
I went through the most horrendous side affects to start with yet persevere.
I was considering going to my gp this week to come off them as I can not cope any more with the anxiety I am suffering.
I have had to leave my job, I will not go out alone and basically feel like an empty she'll.
Now after reading your post I'm thinking do I need to step up again the dose.
I just don't know what to do!!!
I am at the end of my tether I realy am
I just want me back.??????

Hi dadoo
I'm so sorry to hear that yes definitely you should go up to 150mg like I have explained before. You are staying way to long on the same dosage. Have you told your Gp how you feeling. My Gp once I told her by the 3rd week I wasn't feeling good she upped the dosage straight away. For bad anxiety panic attacks and depression most of the time right dosage is 150mg and 200mg.also take propranolol it will help you.
Hope I could help. Xxx keep in touch. Ilda

Hi Ilda,
Thank you for your post it has given me some hope in overcoming my anxiety. Mine started 3 1/2 weeks ago and ever since has ruled my life, I have had to quit my job and I am struggling to leave the house.
I have been prescribed 25mg for the first week then up to 50mg the week after. I am only on day 2 but I am feeling more anxious and I want to leave the house even less today, is this normal? My doctor said if I feel more anxious then I should stop taking it but I don't know whether to keep going to see if it passes?
Thank you
Katherine
