Sertraline dose increase

Posted , 3 users are following.

I've been on 50mg Sertraline for 6 weeks for OCD/anxiety and have had no improvement in symptoms so feel I should increase the dose. Does anyone have any advise on whether It's best to go up to 75mg first or go straight to 100mg?. Thank you.

    Hi Katie

Sorry to hear you haven’t felt any improvement so far after 6 weeks on sertraline. I was prescribed it for terrible anxiety and moderate depression. I’ve been taking it for around 10 weeks now and I felt gradual improvement around weeks 5-6. My GP started me off on 50mg and I took this for a month and the first 2 weeks were a real struggle, felt much worse! After the first month I went back to my GP and she suggested I upped my dose to 100mg, I decided that I would up my dose to 75mg and see how it went and I’ve been taking 75mg ever since, I feel pretty much back to myself now. I hope you start feeling better soon, I suggest you going back to your doctor and seeing if it changes anything upping to 75mg, I personally think it’s for the best increasing the dosage monthly and seeing if it helps. Hope you find this info helpful, all the best. Jamie

Thanks Jamie, I'll be seeing my doctor today and asking to up the dose to 75mg, worried about the side effects but will have to just try and get through them. I'm glad you are feeling more positive, really hoping I see some improvement soon. Best wishes. Katie.

    Hi Katie

I went from 50 straight to 100 for anxiety and the side effects were horrendous . Everything I have read seem to say keep going and I am. It may have been better to go to 75 but now on the second feeling some improvement day by day or even hour by hour . Hope this helps and good luck .

Thanks James, I think I will go up to 75mg at first when I do increase, I had nasty side effects for the first few weeks on 50mg and from what I've gathered from others on here they come back whenever you increase it. I hope you continue to improve. Katie.

And I hope you do keep me informed how you go as I will you with me . We don't want to feel like this and with experience you know the side effects will pass . I hope we all get where we need to be for ourselves and those closest x James
