Sertraline dose too low?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hello everyone,

This is my third day taking Sertraline. First day I took 25mg, then lowered it down to 12.5mg for the last two days.

I've had side effects such as hot flashes, feeling like I was going to faint a couple times, no sleep at all, just generally feeling out of it and no appetite. As well as the nausea, shaky hands etc.

During the day I can literally feel the serotonin hitting me, like a mild ecstacy body high without the euphoria.

I'm wondering if I'm just very sensitive to serotonin? Perhaps serotonin syndrome? Or am I taking a dose that is too low so all I'm feeling is the come down from the drug?

Hope you can help,

Ben

i would speak to a pharmacy or your gp and explain what your feeling , anxiety could just be making it worse and its nothing to do with the meds xx

I tried it when first diagnosed with depression/anxiety. Which turned out to be I was experiencing symptoms of perimenopause. All I can say is that it did give me the shakes and it never let up. I was on a small dose like you. I also, wound up in the ER with bruising all over my legs. It also, made me itch. I had to get off it. Everyone is different though. It could be your anxiety is too high right now. They say the side effects normally wear off but, for me I could not handle the shaking and I was on it for a couple months. It could very well have taken longer for that side effect to pass but, I could not handle it. Hope you find something that works. I did have bad anxiety though and started taking over the counter Dramamine for Motion Sickness. It helps with nausea too. Just a thought. It's calmed my anxiety down. I went on line after buying it and apparently many people get it for anxiety. I was also, feeling dizziness which has gotten better. ❤️

    Hi Ben40505:

I don't know if my other reply posted fully. I'm new to this site. When I was hit with perimenopause and did not know that's what was going on. I was prescribed Sertraline for anxiety and depression. I started on a low dose such as yours. The shaking never let up for me and I was taking it for a couple months. I lost a lot of weight and wound up in the hospital with bruising all over my legs. I had to stop it immediately. It also, made me itch. I was told the shaking and trembling could very well be a side effect of the medication. I couldn't handle that. It was making me more anxious always dealing with that! I couldn't eat without shaking. It drove me nuts. I'm toughing it out now and I'm using natural products now. You could go that route or try another med. All the best to you though. Hope you feel better. ❤️ Hugs....
